Spring is out our house. The clemantis are blooming nicely and very full this year after a very cold freeze a couple weeks ago, I wrapped them in beach towels to keep them from freezing. I have planted more along the railing so maybe next year it will look even better.
A lot of beginning quilters always ask – how do I get started – how do you hand quilt. Here is an article that I found that explains the basics — maybe it can help someone that comes to this site: Hand Quilting 101
I designed this quilt late last fall after I won the seven blocks that are bordered by the thin black strips of fabric. I made the block that is at the top of the middle row, the other blocks were made by other guild members. My block was voted the favorite of this group of fabric and I was given the other blocks in that same group. The fabric used in this quilt and those blocks was from the Kansas Troubles line of fabric by Moda. The large sunflowers in the corners are from one of Judy Mathieson’s patterns in her book “Mariner’s Compass Quilts” (new directions). I hand appliquéd the border and hand quilted this quilt.

I thought I would try my hand at making a purse — I have so much quilting fabric laying around that is so pretty I thought some of it might make a pretty purse and seeing as I need one — I’ll let you all know how it works out. I don’t think this will be a quilted purse though.
I designed this quilt using some of April Cornell’s fabric, some of the fabric is the Faded Memories line. I love her fabric. This baby quilt is hand quilted. The main blocks are a Pine Burr design with insets of my own design done in reverse appliqué to give this block a unique look. I finished it off with a border of stars.
This baby quilt was made from a sample packet of Kona Cotton, I got it from the Hancock’s of Paducah catalog, this packet has about 140 colors of 5 inch squares . I cut each in half and trimmed down to 4 1/2 inches to make this colorful quilt. It is hand quilted.
