Copyright law and the quilter

After some discussion on a list about copyright and quilts I did a search and found this article, it clears up some questions but there are still plenty more.  Most quilters have no clear idea on what is protected and what isn’t.  People always assume that if they buy a quilting magazine or book that the designer wants them to use the pattern in anyway they want – that isn’t the case.
