who in life is perfect? Certainly not me. I have been having trouble with this quilt top I’m designing and making — maybe I should have designed first – and then made
probably would have been the way to go LOL instead I have spent the evening picking out the seams for the borders and tomorrow I will square up the fabric that the Mariners Compass is on. I was going for a rectangular look but when I got to thinking of the pieced border that will go on the next section — well lets just say no matter what I do with it it won’t work! Back to the drawing board. I would rather rip out seams now than get the applique done on the black border and then say hey it is not working. I will update when I get the borders sewed back on and square it up somewhat.

My new sewing machine table arrived yesterday. This portable table is light weight and can be brought to workshops and should be easy to use for traveling in the camper. A link to the site that I got it from: http://www.seweziusa.com/index.html
I first saw this table at the Dallas quilt show in April (or was it March). I had kept it in mind all this time and finally decided to get it.

This is what I have done so far on this quilt. On the wide black border will be some applique and then a pieced border of corresponding colors used so far. Not sure what will be next.

I designed this quilt in August when we were traveling and made most of it in August and September, it is made with a combination of piecing, machine, hand and applique. I hand quilted it when we got home and did the quilting in October. The finished quilt is about 64 inches x 64 inches.

I don’t paper piece very often and I have not done it a lot but in this new quilt that I am designing I thought what the heck why not. The center of this quilt is a 64 point Mariner’s Compass — I need all the help I can get with these points so it seemed like it would be the best choice for it. Here is a link that shows and explains the basics for piecing this way.

Put your printer to work — if you have a combination printer, scanner, copier machine like I do I have found that when you are trying to figure out color combinations for your quilts you can put a piece of your fabric in your printer on the copy mode and make a picture of your fabric — do this in color of course — you can then cut out pieces of your “fabric” and place in your pattern and get color combinations before you cut any fabric.
