I have been having a little trouble with my blog server so if you have trouble reaching me at times that is why, usually if you check back it will be here.
The Christmas season is really coming up fast now. I have done very little baking and do not plan to this year. Sometimes I think we find the Christmas season a reason to stuff ourselves with baked goods that our bodies really do not need — we want it of course
but we do not need it. We are having very little company and for two people – it is an excuse to pig out! I will bake just a tiny bit. We will not have a white Christmas this year, we rarely do. It is supposed to get very cold though tonight and tomorrow. Our blast of winter I suppose. One of our daughters and her family live in Wisconsin and here is a photo of winter up there – our grandson laying next to the mailbox that is almost covered in snow he looks a little tuckered out from playing so hard:

Now that is some snow isn’t it! In a way I miss the snow living here in the south we really do not get it real often, but when you think of all that cold weather then I’m kind of satisfied with a short winter.
The Mariners Compass quilt is now on the bed. It fits really well and we both love it.

Karen, that is sooo pretty!! What a lot of work too, making it this size. You’re braver than I am; my new quilts are put away, waiting for the grandchildren to have homes of their own. It is difficult to not pig out during this time of year. I’ve been cutting back on sweets and when they’re lying around everywhere it makes for a tough break from them. I’ve finally got my quilt frames put back up after our remodeling spree. My frames are also three roller frames; thank goodness I don’t have to get in the floor and do all that basting anymore. My husband made mine. Now it will take a while for my fingers to get calloused. Also I’m having so much pain in my right thumb it’s hard to pull the needle through; I blame the condition on my farm work rather than quilting. ha, ha What kind of needles do you use to quilt with? Wal Mart needles seem to have a short life span before getting hard to use. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Charlotte

Charlotte I send for my needles from the Rebecca company: http://www.thatperfectstitch.com/ I use size 11 betweens. These needles come in a package of 50 needles they are short but have a big enough eye to get your thread through most of the time easily. To help pull my needles through the fabric I use some little rubber circles. I should do a post on needles and needle grippers!

Hi Karen,
Your Quilt looks stunning on the bed! Really impressive. Well done.
The snow sure looks good on pictures. We don’t have white Christmas around here, but if we ever get some snow, I’ll find a good excuse to stay indoors and start a new quilt.
I’d love to know more about the quilting’s accessories and materias used in this craft, as you said maybe you can post information about needles. That will be great.
Wishing you and your family a Happy Christmas!
best wishes
Gina

Gina I will see about doing a post this week on needles, thimbles and such – I know it can be hard for beginners like you to figure out what you need – there are so many choices.
