Question #8 was what do the following have in common: Echo, Stipple, Meander, & Crosshatch?  I thought it was very easy as I’m sure you all did too.  The answer is:  they are all quilting patterns — now it was possible to read the question wrong but these are all quilting stitching patterns – I think maybe it should have been worded like that don’t you?

Here is an example of echo quilting. It is used a lot on Hawaiian quilting and applique quilting.

stippleThis is an example of stipple quilt stitching. Most of the time this is just done by machine – but believe it or not a lot of us hand quilters at times do it as well – mostly in small areas not an entire quilt, but I have used it in some fairly large areas myself.  I could not find a good photo of meander stitching and everything that I did find about it says it is the same as stipple – I do not know if that is right.
2005-619Cross hatch stitching is what I used on this baby quilt – all the straight lines crossing over each other is cross hatch.  Very easy – just make sure you draw your lines on straight.  These can be a half inch apart, an inch, two inches – whatever you want depending on how much stitching you want to put in to your quilt.
