New p.j.’s

in Dear Jane -- or Insanity as I call, quilts

I rarely make clothing anymore  but every now and then I say what the heck why don’t I try it once again.  I use to make 3369390026_a10726e9eeclothing and I was pleased with it most of the time.  One time when I was a young teenage I even took apart an old navy blue pleated skirt to use for fabric.  Remember how much fabric was in those pleated knee length skirts!  Anyhow I took it apart, press all the pleats out of it and made a pair of bell bottom pants out of it!  If I could do that surely I can make a pair of short pj pants.  I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday and bought some cheap flannel – didn’t want to spend much in case they didn’t turn out.  Today I took out an old pair of drawstring long pj pants.  I laid them on my table on top of a big piece of paper. (photo to the left)  I folded the legs up to the length that I would want the short pants to be and drew a line around them to outline the pants adding seam allowance and a wider waist width keeping in mind that a 3369390032_b26832d2e5drawstring will go through them and you want them to fit over your hips – also this pair had an elastic waist besides a drawstring so had to keep that in mind.  3369390030_e712b64738That was my pattern.  Then I cut out the pieces and sewed them together this evening.  Here are my pj’s on me the model.  And another photo of them on the table.  This cost me a grand total of about $2.50 plus thread ( I used my 40% off coupon)  It would have been more if I would have bought a pattern but it turned out ok without one.  I had saved several drawstrings from old pj’s so I even had a string available to use and didn’t have to make one!  I could have made the waist width a little wider so I could draw the string up some more but they will work like this.

Other than making the pajamas tonight I went to my friend Julie’s house today and we worked on Dear Jane squares and had lunch & talked for about 3 hours or more – and ate chocolates courtesy of her hubby — thank you Gene   :)    sorry Regina that you couldn’t make it, we missed you but hope you are having fun in Oklahoma have a good trip back home on Sunday.

3369390036_07e453e0faLast night I quilted some on my Insanity and finished another triangle, tonight I will work some more on it and will start block C1 the blue and white one that you can see in the photo.

It was a rainy day today so it was a perfect day to be in the house sewing and visiting Julie working on our quilts.
