3415703205_1cb443f4a7I have finally finished quilting Row C on my Insanity quilt.  It took a little longer than planned but I did finish the 3 bears wall hanging and the guild challenge project – so I can’t complain.  I was going to post photo’s of the Insanity 3415704217_105b08321fRevisited blocks as I was finishing but I forgot on the last couple I did so I will post a photo of that when I get done with row F (row #6) after I attach it to row 5.  I am getting close to being half way done with the squares on that quilt.  Halfway through the next row I will be half way done with the squares!  The photo on the left is of blocks 13 and 12 left to right.  The other photo is of the triangle of the border on that end of the quilt.  You will notice with all these blocks and triangles that seams don’t always match and points aren’t always as pointed as I would like – to me the quilt is just so busy with so many different patterns and pieces that if anyone wants to find my mistakes they are welcome to do so   :)   after awhile I just didn’t care.  I made it for the challenge to me as I was tired of making simple quilts and wanted something more challenging to work on.  I never have intented to enter it into any show or contest.

Late this afternoon we went ahead and got some plants covered up outside in preparation of the freeze warning tonight and tomorrow night.  I got the clematis covered,  peonies & rose bushes — all have flower buds on them some almost to the point of opening.  I also covered the hydrangea’s they do not have buds on them yet but two years ago when we got hit with the freeze the hydrangea’s lost all of their leaves so I thought I would cover them too.

Well – back to quilting.

Spring-Winter-Spring-Winter again

by Karen on April 5, 2009

in gardening, weather

Don’t you just hate it when you think you have spring, then all of a sudden it is winter again, then spring and then WHAT! it is April 5th right now– we have flower buds all over the place, the redbud blooms are turning into a leafy tree, the dogwood has the gorgeous white flowers all over it, the clematis have buds, the rose bushes have buds, the lily of the valleys are popping up out of the ground and the hostas have begun to sprout out of the ground as well.  And now on the news they say that Monday night into Tuesday morning we will drop to 23 degrees and the wind will make it feel like 14!!!

Today I will spend part of the day (at 60 degrees) preparing for covering up plants tomorrow afternoon as the cold front comes into our area.  I am using every single plant pot I can find out in the workshop and see what I have, all the plastic containers as well and bath towels and sheets will be put to work as well.  I have some newspaper and they will be crumpled up and stuffed around tender plants and a pot put on top of them in hopes that they will stay warm.  When I run out of crumpled newspaper dish clothes and rags will be put to use.  I guess it hasn’t been a bad idea to keep stacking up all those plastic pots from the nursery when I get plants – I always know they will come in handy for something.  I was just going to throw some of them away the other day thinking I had more than enough – now I kind of figure I don’t have enough!  Oh well, some will survive and that counts.

I know some people might just let it go, but I love all these plants and how they look in the spring and I have been looking forward to the pretty flowers.  So I will take the time to try to save some of them.
