Miri I have found doing this block by glue basting just a little at a time that I like it - normally I will glue baste the whole design down and then get started but a lot of the times the pieces get very wrinkled by time I get to them. Now if I was traveling and bringing it with me then I would glue baste the whole thing down first. Of course doing just a little at time means I need to keep my table top clear of junk so I have room to keep the plastic overlay handy.

I haven't had a reading spell in a long time, but I used to have them so I know what you mean. The Circle of Cactus is coming along nicely.
I really admire you for hand quilting your DJ...very impressive!

I don't know how hot is was yesterday, but let's just say that when I finally got home I had to strip off my clothes and put comfy cooler ones on! I really don't like summer!

Hi Karen, I know exactly what you mean about reading and quilting. I used to read 2 or 3 books a week last summer, then I started quilting in the fall and did that in every free minute all winter long. Now that it's getting nicer out, i want to sit in the sunshine and read instead of listening to the constant purr of the machine, so I've a) started to read again and b) switched to a bit of hand quilting. Luckily just a small quilt, so it's not too hot on the lap!

Love your Dear Jane quilt by the way, you've almost got me at a point where I want to start my own, but I'm not sure I'd ever finish it...

Cheers,
Christine

We are FINALLY going to have summer-it's suppose to be 80 today and through the weekend! It's been so gray, rainy and chilly. Also good weather for quilting as you sure couldn't work in the flowerbeds! Love to see what you are working on. Thanks for sharing!

The christmas cactus is coming along very nicely Karen. I don't blame you for not wanting to do much hand quilting. Even though you use a frame it still has to be a bit warm to work on it, besides, sitting on the porch, reading a book and drinking lemonade, as you mentioned yesterday, sounds very relaxing.

I too go on reading jags...I've partially solved it by listening to audio books while quilting or appliqueing...librivox.org has free in-the-public-domain books for download right to i-tunes.

Your Cactus block looks beautiful...I'm curios-I always baste everything and then applique as you said you usually do but this block you were doing by the piece-which do you like better?

Congrats! on your award.
