So Lazy

in Dear Jane -- or Insanity as I call, quilts

Once again I feel like I have been so lazy.  I have not been doing a whole lot lately.  I did get the grass cut this afternoon.  3722284262_2619d85948The weather had actually been better today than it has been.  It rained this afternoon but with it the weather was so much cooler than it was supposed to be!!  Instead of 94 it got to3722285008_e976274a53 84! I can live with that.  It was breezy and felt nice all afternoon.

I have quilted a little on “Insanity” about time huh!  I have gotten 3 blocks done since the last I showed any photo’s of it.  The photo on the left is from Row F # 8 & 9 and the photo on the right is of block # 10.  When I am half way done with the next row that will make it half way done!!

I’m not sure if I ever shared this photo of a quilt that we saw when we were in Pennsylvania in May.  It is a beautiful quilt.  It was on display upstairs of the Old Country Store in the museum that they have.  Isn’t it beautiful.  I love the bright colors.  I didn’t think to write down the name of the pattern or who made it.  I loved it though.  It is appliqued by hand and  hand quilted and some of the flowers are 3 dimensional.  Does anyone know who made it?

I saw that quilt last year when I was there. I know the lady that made it had a number of quilt on display at the time. Did you notice that the colors in the border line up with the colors in the binding?
It’s late and I am leaving in the morning for my daughter’s. If I remember I’ll try to look it up in my photo album when I get back. (Ok, it’s a real longshot that I’ll remember as the memory is totally gone)

Hi Karen, my goodness we could use some of the weather here in Ontario. It’s only mid 60s rather than high 70s to low 80s. I am freezing and wearing long pants each day. In the mornings I must turn on the heaters to warm me up!
I love the PA. quilt. I read that a lot of their applique work is done by Hmong immigrants that are in the area now. The Hmong have a natural skill for applique work it seems and their style works well with the Amish style of quilting..
I think I know how you feel regarding your quilting and the weather. Here it’s the opposite…too cold sometimes.
But please do keep posting the photos. I really apreciate looking at the posts and the delicate work you do.

Almost half way done, Hooray!!!! That applique quilt is stunning!! The only thing that keeps popping into my head is it’s an Elly S (can never remember her last name) design, Baltimore Beauties???? It could very well be this person’s own design though.

thanks Karen – yes look and see if you can find it if you remember. I wondered where the pattern could be found – (like I really have time for one more!)

Crispy I will look and see if I can find anything from the info you have give.

Mariana you could start one if you want to. Just do one block at a time and you can quit whenever you want – you don’t have to make the whole quilt if you don’t want to :)

Nanci I will have to look and see what photo’s of the quilts hubby took while we were gone. I will try to post some of them – we stopped at several places where there were quilts although they don’t always let you take photo’s.

Crispy is talking of Elly Sienkiewicz. I have a book that has the medallion center in it, so that part is definitaly Elly’s design, Not sure if the entire thing is. I will go through my books (I have several of her books as I am a FAN!) and see if it is in there. Who ever made it was brilliant!!!

Your Insanity quilt is wonderful. I love the colors!!

thanks Bren I will have to look up Elly’s work – I had not heard her name before!

You use the same kind of “thimble” that I use! When I found it in Houston at the Internation Quilt Show I was so excited. I’ve tried using a regular thimble and it just doesn’t seem to work right any more.

Hey Sherry I don’t know anyone else that uses this thimble. I found this little plastic thing to stick on the end so that I drop it less – it gives a better grip – found it in office supplies. I can’t use a regular thimble to quilt although I use an open nail thimble to applique with at times if my fingers get sore.

I looked up Elly’s work – wow does she ever have a lot of books, I recognized some of the covers, I had just not remembered her name I guess.

I remember seeing that quilt last summer. There are so many lovely ones in that museum to drool over…
