Amy at Park City Girl is having a Fall Quilt Festival just as she did last spring, having a Spring Quilt Festival then. Go to her page and read all about it and then scroll down her site to see all the quilts listed. The quilt that I am showing is one that I made six years ago – it is a favorite of mine. It is called “Twisted Stars” the pattern is by Judy Niemeyer. The pattern calls for it to be paper pieced. That is not my favorite method of piecing! In fact it is my least favorite. Instead I decided to hand piece it like I do so many of my quilts. For each star I used two fat quarters leaving me plenty of scraps for other quilts. The background is a yellowish batik. The quilt measures 104 x 102 inches. I made it in 2003. Do not hand piece if you want instant gratification! I do not mind the slow pace of hand piecing. This quilt took me 313 hours to hand piece
and 153 hours to hand quilt it. I use to keep track all the time of how many hours I put in to a quilt now I don’t keep track as often. Mainly now I just do on my Dear Jane Quilts.
Head on over to Amy’s page and see the show!

wow, this quilt is amazing!
That is a gorgeous quilt, Karen. I hope you keep it out on a bed for viewing all the time. It is too beautiful to fold up and store.
I have a perfectly good sewing machine that gathers dust bunnies. Since I discovered hand piecing(I have always hand quilted) nothing equals the method for relaxation & portability.
Your hand quilting & piecing are exquisite! What beauties you created, thank you so much for the sharing!
Well worth the # of hours you put into it.
thanks – I sure do love this quilt – it was actually quite fun to make it too – but then I find hand piecing really relaxing – I know a lot of you don’t – so many pretty quilts on the festival list!
Definitely a delayed gratification project but obviously exquisitely handworked and quilted. Love all the colors! Thanks for sharing your quilt’s story.

Wow, this is beautiful…I love her patterns, though haven’t done one yet. PP is not my favorite either, so I stick to small projects when pp! You did a wonderful job, hand piecing and hand quilting this quilt.

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful! I love the stars. Beautifully done!
This quilt is absolutely gorgeous!
I totally agree with you about paper piecing and I’ll do just about anything to avoid it!
I’ve noticed that it takes me about twice as long to hand applique a quilt as to hand quilt it! and that doesn’t really make sense because stitch for stitch the hand quilting has to be more stitches!

I am impressed, one with the quilt itself, love the pattern and colors and two the fact that you hand sewed it. My hand sewing isn’t too great so I admire anyone who does.

Wow, amazing that you had the fortitude to complete such a project. But then you are doing the Insanity, which tells me that you do indeed have what it takes to sew that many hours on one quilt. Very beautiful quilt.

Hand. Pieced. Oh my this is so beautiful – I’ve only hand-pieced one quilt, my first, and can’t seem to go back to it, I’m too impatient! This is so beautiful, the colors are so rich and vibrant. WOW.
