The binding is done on “Insanity” !! And now the quilting begins on the scallops. I wish I had thought of this before I took it off of the frame! They did look rather empty. Here are two photos of the beginning of the quilting on the scallops.
Today – another great day for November! Hit 71 degrees out here by 11 this morning I had the windows open! how great is that. We worked outside for awhile this morning before Mike left for work. I am continuing on the flower bed digging out plants and replanting in other areas of the yard while Mike is finishing up on the patio section of the deck. Hopefully the work will get done on the deck/patio this weekend – we will see – I think we need to pick up a little more flat pavers (flat brick like rocks) and I need to pick up some more dirt – raised beds here – the soil is so rocky I have too hard of a time to dig in it. I would say if we had a harvest it is rocks!! they pop up out of no where!!
I picked up the paint for the bathroom and this time I made sure to look at the color better than I did the first time for the kitchen. I hope to get started painting in there in the next couple of days. I do not need to do the ceiling and if I use the taller of the two step ladders then I won’t need to reach my arms up over my head therefore not bothering my neck! The tricks we learn to get around medical problems
I am going to paint really slow and only do one wall at a time a little each day – it doesn’t matter if it takes me a week or more! It will get done.
Now I need to share a link that a internet friend of mine - Joyce from northern Arkansas (she doesn’t have a blog) shared with me – here is a Dear Jane finished – it has a different look to it. Go to this link to see the photo – isn’t it great? This quilt is by Julia in Perth, Western Australia – yes we Dear Jane fanatics are from all over the world!!
Julia what a great quilt you made and how original with the applique in the center – I wish I had thought of something like that!

Oh Karen, the quilting you are doing in the borders really does make a difference. It’s just enough too. What a fantastic job you have done on this long term project. I envy your “stick to it” attitude. This is a quilt that will be handed down through you family for generations, I am sure.
Your DJ looks wonderful! Very inspiring!

The scallops are just gorgeous!! I am loving it. Don’t over do it with all the work you have to do. You know that I empathize with you.

Fabulous! The perfect finishing touch on the scallops!

thanks all – I wish I had thought to quilt the scallops though before I took it off of the frame – it isn’t hard to quilt though off of the hoop, I have it folded a lot so it is nice and skinny and not draped all over my legs – it is too warm right now for that!
Simply beautiful – I don’t do much hand quilting but when I do it’s usually on my lap and not in a hoop. Because of my arthritis problems holding a hoop, or quilting in a hoop is out of the question for me. The quilting is not as good but at least it’s do-able. blessings, marlene

I like how the scallops look. I also love the dear jane on the other site. I think that her borders look good to.
The scallops do look much more “finished” now, however, maybe you decided to do the extra quilting because you can’t stand the idea of actually being done with it ROFL.

Oh, the scallops edging just makes this quilt! I am also pleased to see your wonderful quilting finishing this. Yes, I suppose it would have been easier on the frame, but you can now have this on your lap to finish it.
We too have had wonderful weather, yesterday it was in the mid 60s and so I had the windows and doors open to get the fresh air. I also aired out my duvet which smelled to fresh last night when we went to bed.
Good luck with the paint colour….we are safe painters, either cloud white by Benjamin Moore, or Rafia by Para….no experimenting for us!
Your quilt turned out beautifully, Karen! Love the scallops. I am not looking forward to putting binding on mine when the time comes. Just the thought of it scares me! Nicely done.

All the extra work you are putting into this quilt really shows…well done! What an incredible heirloom you will have.
thank you Caron and Lorraine – the compliments mean a bit coming from you both.
