I finished my 6th Baltimore Bliss blocks that I got from the Fat Cat Pattern site.   That is all of them that I am making for this child size quilt.  I really had fun with these blocks they were fairly simple to make and I needed that after all the difficult work on some of the quilts that I have made this past couple years.  There are six more blocks in this series of BOM blocks.  I will continue to collect them and make another child size quilt from the  next set and use a different color scheme for it.

The 6th block in this series. I had only used this blueish color fabric in one block so I had to make sure to use it in this one so it would all balance out right. I redesigned this block. I didn't care for the flowers as it was designed - it would have had two colors layerd on each petal and nothing in the center of them, I preferred to do them this way. Also the leafs next to the flowers were a bit bigger and I thought they took up too much room so I made them smaller.

So now I need to decide what the lay out will be - set on point like this? Not with the carpet of course :) but with more of the same background fabric and then a border around the outside.

It would need a bit of quilting on the center two blocks and then on the half square triangles - maybe a feather wreath in the plain blocks and half the wreath on the triangles. In other words a lot of quilting. Of course I am leaning more towards this layout as it is more work :)

Or set like this with sashing and borders around the whole thing.

Or set like this with sashing and borders around the whole thing. This lay out would be the easier of the two as far as quilting it would go although on the border and sashing I would probably put a braid like design on it which would be a bit of quilting. Any fabric used in these blocks is down to very little left over so whatever the sashing would be might not be from these colors - one of the reasons I am leaning towards the set on point version - I have plenty of the background fabric as I got quite a few yards of it - it is such an easy color to work with so I got a bit of it.

I really like the two blocks in the middle the best for some reason.  Not sure why.  I should have used the light green fabric a little more but I ran out as I almost did with the plaid.  The hazards of using up scraps!  All of the colors except the background fabric was pulled from my scraps.  I am really trying to be good and use a lot of them up.

  1. Hey I just checked out the site! I love the blocks… I downloaded the two that were still available. Do you have the pdf’s of the ones that were already retired?

Would you be willing to email them to me if you do? That would be so kind!

I checked the site and it says that you can share with friends and family so I don’t think it would be a problem to because it says as long as you don’t sell them or package them for sale it’s ok…

THANKS SEW MUCH! If you don’t have them or don’t want to that’s cool too!

  2. Fabulous! Personally, I vote for the on-point and feathered wreaths, it would be worth it :) Love your fabric choices.

  3. I think that the blocks turned out great. I vote for on point.

  4. Mandy I tried to send you an e mail but it was didn’t go through for some reason. I did not save the patterns in pdf format. I just printed them off straight from the site.

  5. The blocks are beautiful Karen, I vote for on point too….I also like the more work angle of quilting LOL.

  6. Nice work on the BOM. I really like the color choices you have and blueish is one of my favorite colors! I agree with you that making them on point would be the best choice. Look forward to seeing the finished quilt!

  7. well I think all of us hard working quilters agree – set on point it will be with a lot of quilting – it will be the prettiest choice I agree.

  8. Karen, So glad to see that you are going to do the on point set especially since your hand quilting is so beautiful!!! Those hand quilted center blocks will really set the applique blocks off nicely. And, heck, it will give you something to do in your spare time, hehehe!Do you know what color thread you will use … maybe “bluish” or perhaps another variegated thread? Any of the colors used in the fabrics would probably work so guess it is just a personal choice. Will this quilt be completed for your granddaughter or is there another child that this is intended for?

  9. That’s cool! Thanks for letting me know!!! I think I’m going to post about it in a few days… maybe I’ll just email the creator and she’ll be kind enough to share with a poor university student lol!

I love how the top turned out on point!! That was my favourite setting for it!

I can’t wait to make one for myself… I think for me applique may turn out to be my insanity quilt lol. I’ve never tried it so it should be both a good learning experience and fun.

I changed my email back to my personal one for your blog. I tried a new email to go with my blog to stop my old email from just getting out there… but for things like this where it’s kept private I don’t mind. I was just sick of getting all of the spam!
