I finished the quilting on the Dutch Treat quilt– now on to the binding! I will try to get the binding done this weekend and then post a photo. Mainly I was only working on this quilt for the last 2 weeks – actually 12 days!! That must be a record for me. This is a small quilt though so that really helped. I have been knitting a little bit and I think I made one or two Dear Jane blocks in that time also. Isn’t it amazing how fast you can get a small quilt done if it is just about the only thing you are working on!
I’m really glad to get one project done – that leaves 4 quilt tops left to quilt next year – the Christmas Quilt is on the frame and I have touched it now and then in the last several weeks and have gotten several hours of quilting in on it. When I get done with the binding on the Dutch Treat I will decide which quilt will be next to be put in the hoop to quilt but will most likely take a couple weeks before I start the next one and let the finger tips heal once again.
I think the majority of you hate fruitcake!! But listen – really there is a difference between candied fruit and dried fruit – give dried fruit a chance and you will see a difference for sure. I know very few people who like candied fruit but most like dried fruit.
All of you readers out on the east coast – stay nice and cozy inside this weekend – have the fireplace going and sit back and get some quilting done and enjoy looking at the snow

You have a big AMEN from me. My mother purchased fruitcakes from Collin Street Bakery (big fruitcake place in Texas). She tried several different varities but never found one like her mother’s. One day, I walked in and she waved a recipe shouting I found Mama’s recipe!
I played with it for a couple of years before Mama gave me a big smile and a thumbs up. NO bitter candied fruit, citron, or citrus peels!Grandmother used some candied fruit…but it was fruit she candied. I didn’t want to go through that kind of trouble. Mine has:
dates
golden raisins
canned crushed pineapple, drained
red maraschino cherries
green maraschino cherries
orange slice candy, chopped
pecans
coconut
Recent additions include dried tart cherries and Craisins. I have even used dried chopped figs.
I smirk at those unwilling to try it (more for me!) and sit back and absorb the comments of those who do.

Can’t wait to see the quilt totally finished! Good for you!
People often ask me how long does it take you to finish a quilt…I always have to laugh and say, “Well that depends on how often I work on it!”
Have a nice week-end.

Wow Karen you have been a busy lady.
I am going to have to give the dried fruit cake another whirl. I have done it before but it needed some more tweeking and then I just run out of time/eaters since there is only two of us here.
I am about half done with my computer reformat the basic are reloaded but now to add the extras that I need to do everything I do.

Oh Karen, I too prefer the dried fruit. I used to soak the cake in rum for a week! Tasted so yummy. My mother who lived in the British Virgin Islands gave me a “black cake” recipe years ago and it is still in my file, although I never used it. I have had it when visiting her in the islands when she was there.
I think it’s the soaking that give the cake the flavour and I know of friends who have added the rum to bought cakes to give it flavour.
Busy is the operative word for this time of year. My fingers are sore from hand work and my mind is numb from ideas and my feet ache from walking….Merry Christmas
Karen, Thanks for thinking of us on the East Coast! We are currently dealing with probably about 8″ – 10″ of snow in North Central NC. Had to dig a path to the garage and driveway so that I can walk my dog a bit. Due to her age she is finding it hard going. It is darn pretty though and since we are retired, it is no big deal for us … we’ve got plenty of milk and bread (that seems to be what the stores here run out of and it has become a big joke in our area) and I certainly have plenty of projects to work on including Christmas cookie baking. I will be making pizzelles today. Do you know what they are or have you ever had them? You need an iron (like a waffle iron) to make them and they are an Italian treat. They have anise in them and people either like them or hate them. Enjoy your day!
