That’s right we in the south are being hit with a very cold January!  I know y’all in the north laugh and say toughen up – what you have is not cold :)   That’s ok, if it wasn’t for the fact that I have been living in central Arkansas for 30 years now I would be laughing with you.  I have gotten used to mild winters!  I don’t mind a little bit of cold and a little bit of snow – I grew up by Lake Michigan in Wisconsin I know very well what it is like!  This is unusual for here.

this is our forecast for the week

this is our forecast for the week, it left off Thursday night - it is supposed to get down to about 1 degree!! lets hope that changes :)

We woke up this morning to another light dusting of snow – not a lot by anyone’s standards.  The squirrels thought they needed some food and tried to get into the bird feeder so I threw a bunch of bird seed on the ground for them so they would leave the feeder alone – here they are pigging out.

Today's snow - I haven't even gone outside and it is 2:55 PM - somehow I don't think I will make it outside today it is only 26 degrees and I bet it starts to drop soon.

I will brave the weather tomorrow no matter what the temperature and go to the library to stock up on more books – I am down to re-reading books off my shelves – surely I can find something new tomorrow.  Also seeing as I will be out I will run over to the fitness center and get some exercise – I need it as I haven’t been out of the house a lot the last 4 days!  But I have gotten more sewing and knitting done.  I am down to finishing one sleeve on the sweater – maybe 16 rows more need to be done and then I can put it together.  I have more strips sewed and cut to make four patches out of and I also got in an hour of quilting this morning on the Christmas Baltimore Album which I have really neglected since I put in on the quilting frame – I only have one border quilted and so much more to go.

So for those of you who read this how do you feel about the The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims?  For $42.95 you have a year’s membership to use the site and access to patterns and quilt shows (tutorials?).  How do you like it if you use it — and — is it worth the price?  Please leave comments so that others can see what you all think about it too.  I am tempted as I like some of the patterns that have been on this site.

  1. Karen, I guess that forecast isn’t quite so normal for Arkansas. But yes, it is definitely colder here in the north. Makes you just want to stay inside and quilt lots. As far as your question about The Quilt Show, I have been a member since day 1 and love it. You can watch the shows at your leisure and they are fun to watch when you have the time. Quite inspirational. You also gain inspiration from other members. Yes, the price is worth just the BOM in and of itself. That is my humble opinion. But I think you can do it for a half year too, I think. That would be a great way for you to try it to see if you like what they have to offer.

  2. Poor Karen, 1 degree is VERY cold no matter where you are but mostly for you folks in the south. Just pile on a bunch of quilts after your trip to the library and enjoy :0)

  3. Hi, Karen; Sorry about your snow! As for The Quilt Show, I had one of the first subscriptions, and I let it lapse. There are a lot of great guests, ideas, etc., but I’m not a Ricky Timms fan in any way shape or form – just a personal thing – can’t stand the man. After years of being a Simply Quilts junky, I found that Alex was “over-emoting” too much for my taste. Just my opinion. Don’t send me hate mail ;-) I know lots of people love it.

  4. Yeah, well, I know about cold as it’s zero here in Whitby. It should warm by the end of the week. Just put a quilt on the lap, read, sip tea and let the season go by.
I even hate shopping when it’s this cold and I have a garage to put the car into when I return, and….my sweetie will unpack it all too!

Nope to the subscription for me. I saw a couple of “free” shows and it just doesn’t do it for my taste. I too am not a fan of Timms. I found it just too showy and I know that here in Canada, it’s a lot more than that for the subscription! Now, I ask you, what would they teach you? You? I’d rather watch Sewing with Nancy for free and I always learn a bit from her and I like her!
You can also log on to Quilttv for free and get great ideas.

I am like Patchmaker…gotta see what she does… I like her statements. happy quilting

  5. LOL oh Nanci thanks for the compliments but I am sure I have a lot to learn still. I am surprised that so few have commented on the quilt show though – I thought there would be more opinions.

  6. Hi Karen & nanci; Drop by any time; always nice to hear from another Canadian.

Karen – hope things are better today, but nanci’s advice about the quilt, the tea, and the book is right on!

  7. I am planning on doing that right now – tea is just about ready (now lets see if I will like that brand) and the book is waiting. I quilted for 30 minutes and need a break.

  8. I am also a Charter Member of The Quilt Show but decided not to renew this year. I enjoyed the shows but found that there was alot of things shown that I had little interest in. I also found that I was not finding the time to watch all the episodes.
