The storm passed during the night and although it certainly took it’s time going through Oklahoma and Arkansas we saw on the news this morning that it certainly rushed it’s way to the east coast during the night! amazing how fast it moved once it left our state. We in the south get pretty excited about our winter storms, I think it is because we don’t have very many of them and all of you in the north are tired of them by December! I remember – I’ve been there and done that!! I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin and had long hard winters, then we lived for a time in Connecticut and Idaho when Mike was in the military so had plenty of snow then too. Here though we are lucky to get a winter storm once a year, there have been times when children in this area of Arkansas didn’t see snow for several years at a time. I’m sure there are plenty of snowmen being made today. I bundled up earlier this morning (high of 25 right now) and took photo’s before the snow lost it’s pretty untouched look.

The snow measures at four and a half inches. I thought we had more than that!! Maybe it is higher in other parts of the yard this is on the patio table. (sewing ruler so the numbers look messed up on it - can be used from either end - I thought it said 6 1/2 and had to recheck it)

a frozen pine tree

a part of the yard looking really white

a set of animal tracks down by the woods - I do not recognize what they are from - We had plenty of deer, cat and dog prints but these?

yesterday it was covered with ice now with snow - I wonder if I will be able to get the doors open when I go outside in a little bit to clear it off and get warmed out so I can get out of the house for a little while and exercise.

the road in front of our house - a slushy mess right now, tonight down to 14 or lower - it will be all ice tomorrow.

our yard from the top of the driveway

another view - we have close to 4 acres, and about a third of it is trees.

Nice to see your Winter Wonderland. We are “getting it” right now – it was about 6 inches when we went tromping through it for a walk late this morning. It’s probably over 8″ by now, but it’s so cold, I’m not going out to measure. The full moon tonight will be interesting – I just hope the clouds are gone by then.

It is so beautiful. Don’t you just love the snow covered pine trees? Now we are ready for the melt.

Absolutely beautiful – Montgomery, AL only got rain and we did not need any more of that – the temp is dropping steadily today – wind blowing but NOTHING like what ya’ll are enduring – but it is certainly gorgeous – the pics are wonderful – thanks for sharing! Teri

even though I love the snow I am glad to have only gotten what we did, it will melt fast and I will have had one winter snow storm to remember for this year!

Well, we in NC near the VA line got 8 – 10 inches at the last measurement but it has been snowing or doing something all day so maybe the number is larger now. It is pretty but I am afraid we are stuck at home for a few days since it will take a while to get the roads cleared especially since it is not going to warm up right away like it usually does in NC. This is unbelievable weather for us right now. I don’t think I have seen weather like this since we moved here in 1991. And then I heard on our weather radio that there might be another storm headed this way at the end of the week!!!! Unbelievable! Stay warm, Karen!

Well, it looks pretty anyway. You have more snow on the ground than we do right now.

Hi Karen,

thanks for visiting my blog and complimenting my table runner! The scenery in your pictures is so much alike ours here in Finland a the moment. I live in southern Finland and to have snow in such quantities as we have it now isn’t so regular any longer. But now we have plenty of it, got more last night, and I love it since it brings so much light into this dark season.
It’s fun to think that even with the huge ocean separating our continents the quilters know no boundaries

New snow always looks so pretty, but be careful of the ice underneath!!
The prints are from a bunny.

Wow, looks like you got deeper snow than we did. Ours is mostly ice with a layer of snow on top of it, but it’s hard as a rock and crunches under the foot. The back yard is still covered but the roads are looking clearer today.

We got 6 inches, but no ice so I’m feeling fortunate. I’m ready for spring!

Hi, Karen! Thank you for your comments on my blog! I´ve been through your blogs and you make such wonderful things! I love stars, too, and my favourite technique is paper-piecing, I use it whenever I can. Greetings from Hellen in Iceland

I love the way everything looks after a snow, especially the trees. and the total quiet after the snow is awesome.

It’s beautiful. I love the prettiness of a freshly fallen snow.
As for the tracks, I’m think those are rabbit tracks.

The snow is beautiful. There is something so pretty about fresh snow. But I’ve had enough this year I think!

I just found your blog and I LOVE the pic with the sewing ruler in the snow! It really made me laugh when it occured to me that my sewing rulers are my only means of measuring anything too!
