I went to the Paducah Quilt Show once back in 2004 – 6 years ago! Wow how time flies. I enjoyed seeing the quilts and shopping the vendors – looking at the quilt museum which I have seen about 3 times over the years. Mike finishes his contract job in the middle of March and I thought he might be ready for a road trip come April 22 – don’t you all think so! He immediately agreed and got on line and found a campground only 14 miles from Paducah that had openings and I am going to the Paducah Quilt Show 2010!!!!
Now I don’t know if all of you are familiar with the show? It is put on by the American Quilters Society of which I am a member for the last couple of years. You do not of course need to be a member to go to the show but if you are you get a discount on admission (not a lot but with your membership you get six magazines a year and access to the sales on their books which can really amount to a bit). The quilts are fabulous to see. So many to look at and the vendors! I won’t even go there – I have no idea how many — OK I take that back I just now went to the web page to see if they have the vendors listed and they do – if I counted right it is around 200!! Do you have any idea how long it takes to walk through all those vendors
I will be drooling. (you do not know how many of us quilters who have no local quilt shops enjoy shows with vendors until you have been there – finally we get to see all of these items we go on line to see – but now we can actually see and feel the items!)
We are staying 3 nights and I will be wandering through the quilts on the Wednesday(23rd) and Thursday (24th) of the show I believe. I told Mike that he can drop me off if I want to go back the second day to look some more, there is actually quite a few things in the area he can spend time seeing as he likes to take so many photographs he will be able to keep busy. Believe it or not he really likes to look through the quilts too. I think he likes to see the dumbstruck look on my face as I see some of the really fantastic creations some people come up with. Or maybe he likes to come with me to control my spending? LOL I actually keep that under control pretty well myself.
Of course right there in the same town is the National Quilt Museum. I love that place. It is another place to spend hours at drooling over the quilts. Normally by this time of year it is very hard to get a reservation as all of the motels in the town get booked up in advance. Six years ago when I went with my daughter we planned only a month in advance – kind of a spur of the moment thing and I was lucky to find a motel 50 miles from the show. This time though we have the motorhome – I was kind of surprised that the campground had spots available but I guess it is more women going with other women driving and/or flying in and staying in motels than women piling in a motorhome and taking off
I’m so glad Mike was able to find something so close – that 50 mile drive the last time was a bit much considering it is a 6 hour drive from home too!
Just wanted to share my news – anyone else going?

You’ll have a great time, I’m sure. I’m not going to Paducah, but I am going to the new AQS show in Lancaster at the end of March. My quilting buddies and I can’t wait!

If I was on spring break that week I would stow away and go with you. Ha Ha! The biggest quilt show I’ve been to was the Dallas Quilt Show two years ago. But one day I’ll get to visit Paducah.

Karen, Oh I envy you!!! I went to the Paducah show once back in 1995 or 1996 with two friends one of whom was headed back to her home in England after spending 10 – 12 years in the states. We had a wonderful time. We actually stayed in a house that a family rents out for the show. It was comfortable and homey, much better than a hotel room …. and they always put out goodies for breakfast like cereal, muffins, and fruit. We even got to play with their dog!!! I hope to do that again one day. Wish I could meet you there this year! Enjoy! We will watch for photos afterward.
I am so happy for you!! That is just too exciting! I have always wanted to go and hope someday to get there. Mike sounds like a very supportive husband, much like mine. What a terrific guy to find a spot so close too. Enjoy the show, the vendors, and the museum. Take tons of pics to share.

Vivian I went that same year as well – we might have walked right passed each other gazing at quilts and have not known it!
Yes Jackie Mike is very supportive of my quilting addiction
I’m sure between the two of us we will have hundreds of photos.
I think we all love quilt shows don’t we!
envy you i went in 2000 staying with friends in their motor home . think it was on husband road at a not finished campground. close comfortable cheap only ate out at noon. i had driven my car over there so curt drove us over in it dropped us off at the door then he went sight seeing returning to get us for lunch…. didn’t appreciate at the time how great it was too overwhelmed by the quilts and crowds…..have fun bonnie
You’re going to have so much fun! I’m totally jealous. I went a couple of years ago with some friends. We managed to snag a cabin on a lake that was just beautiful, both the cabin and the lake. We were there for the whole weekend, due to work restrictions, and I still think I missed seeing some things!
I will go back some day. That’s my promise to myself!
How great that you are able to go! I would love to go someday – maybe that’s a time we can meet up. Have a wonderful time!

I, too would love to go – maybe when I retire, hubby and I can go so some – he likes to look and I am sure can find other interests in the areas – he just likes to travel!!!! Can’t wait to hear back on your adventures…and see pictures!
Teri
Have a great time! I hope the weather cooperates and you have beautiful spring weather to boot!
yes I am sure it will be fun and maybe one day some of you can meet for a day at the show in the future and we will all shop the vendors!!
Oh I’m sooooo jealous!!! I would love to go some day but I doubt it will ever happen. Someday I would love to go to the Sisters show in Oregon too.
Crispy
Karen, you will have so much fun! And what a great idea to take your motor home and camp. We love to go camping, and I’ve gone to the Sisters show while camping! Can’t wait to see lots of pictures.

Oh, lucky you!!!! I’ve gone many times, but not in the last 6 or 7 years. Have fun. Look for my quilt at the museum: DREAMCATCHER – it’s in their permanent collection, and may or may not be hanging when you’re there.
Have fun!!!!!!!!!!! Now that AQS does other shows closer to me, I probably won’t get back to Paducah, but I love that little town.
I’m going to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, VA this weekend. Can’t wait to spend some quality time with friends at a big quilt convention!!!
This will be my first trip. I am taking my mother too. She is so excited. That makes me happy. I’m looking forward to seeing Elenor Burns and Ricky Tims. My favorite stone and mortor store is Little Quilts. They will be part of the vendors this year. So much to do…
