Part of Tuesday was spent at Jacksonport State Park - and no bugs!! we so enjoyed walking the grounds by the big old courthouse that is now a museum. The park was hit by a tornado in 1992 that did a lot of damage. You can see in the photos that there are no big shade trees around the building — I bet there were at one time. Money was raised and the damage was fixed to the building - one of the main attractions to the park is the old courthouse. This park continues to have its problems caused by weather. This past winter the old riverboat sank! Now they need to raise the boat out of the water and restore it. They need to raise some more money for that.
Here are photos:
Because this is a port town there are of course oysters in the bed of the river. In this photo on the wall you can see a photo of a necklace - some pretty big nice oyster pearls were taken out of here over the years. One pearl is supposed to be in a royal crown in England.

Wow! Those are some awesome photos! I too, see a quilt pattern in the sidewalk. It’s just lovely:)
How interesting – wish I was there! This comes during my busy meeting time! Maybe when I retire……wishing……hoping……dreaming…..!
Can’t wait to hear about the show! Thanks for sharing!

Wow I enjoyed that, thanks for sharing! Hubby and I love to stop by and see bits and pieces of history like this, glad you’re having fun! It’s not raining is it? Didn’t it rain nonstop last year when you were on vacation? LOL
.-= CJ´s last blog ..Another finish! =-.
That building does look naked without big trees in front of it. Too bad nature can be so cruel at times. Love the wood floors inside. Hope your having fun! How’s the budget going?

Glad that you were able to be outside without the bugs! Boy, can they make life miserable. Wonder what people did in the “old days”? Guess they wore long sleeves and long pants/skirts even when it was hot …. and a hat. About that brick pattern: I just saw a quilt in a design like that at a Guild quilt show in NC. It was a great scrap user!!! Several of us that were attending together said it would be a good one to make. Can’t wait to see yours when you make it! LOL Hope you are enjoying the show!!!!!
Very cool to see how they make oyster shell buttons. We aren’t bothered too much with bugs yet but I did see my first skeeter. It’s those little biting no-see-ems that really bother me.
