I always love to see the flowers that grow in the west. So many wildflowers! Some of these are taken in Western Nebraska in the sand hills and some from Wyoming.

Yarrow:
I think these yellow flowers are called “Heartleaf America” but I’m not positive.
I can’t find these blue flowers in my book but they sure are pretty.
A Prickly Pear Cactus in bloom:
I couldn’t find the name for this flower either:
As you can see although we are in the high plains desert there are plenty of wild flowers and plants that grow here – you just have to look for them at times. Almost all of these flower photos were taken around Independence Rock on the mile trail that goes around the base.

FABULOUS Pictures!
I am so glad you two have chosen this route & are taking ‘me’ along to enjoy. THANK YOU , Karen & Mike, for sharing your vacation!:)
There is an excellant jelly made from the hips of Prickly Pear Cactus, as most of you probably know.It is not made until they have really dried–usually toward fall when they turn a deep purple..the hips are quite lovely against the green of the prickly.

Karen, these blue flowers looks like blue bells to me… I believe they are the same as we have in Norway, and there we call them blue bells.
I don’t make comments to every post you do, but I do read all the posts with huge interest. Thanks for sharing your trip with me/us!

Karen, we have those pricly pear cactus in Missouri, I haven’t seen any here in Arkansas yet, they do have the most beautiful flowers!
When my youngest son was about 6, we moved to a new house that had a huge prickly pear right off the patio. He was running and tripped and fell face first onto it, poor baby had thorns stuck in every inch of his body.
