A Few Plants and Feeders

When we got home last week after being gone for 7 weeks we of course no longer had all the birds hanging around that we normally do at this time of year.  I always put food out for them and of course none had been out for a long time.  I got busy and filled the bird feeder.  Boy it looks like winter out there with all that dried grass.

Soon a nuthatch came to visit and about 4 more in the tree as well although they have not eaten much seed – maybe a lot of dried up seeds out there from all the dried flowers and such?

I have hung up the hummingbird feeder and have a pair of hummingbirds coming and going. I couldn’t get a close up though of the hummingbirds feeding without the photo coming in blurry.

I got some flowers to pot and the butterflies are coming back (not in this photo though – didn’t have the camera with me at the right time).

I have watered plants off and on all week and I have some coming back and the ground cover is perking up in places.  Now if we could just get some rain things would start looking like it was back to normal.  I’m not sure when it rained here last.

Flowers have really suffered this summer. I’m wondering what the results will be next spring with the bulb flowers. I think we’ve only had four-tenths of an inch since the 13th of July. Fire danger is extremely high around here. Now a quilt question: are batik fabrics color fast?

I have really noticed in the last 2 weeks how brown everything is getting. I doubt if we are going to see a beautiful, colorful fall this year. It got so dark and cloudy this afternoon, I really thought we would get quite a bit of rain. But we got a little drizzle and that’s about it. I bet the birds are thanking you for the food.

Things are pretty brown here too; we haven’t had a lot of rain, but we have had a really long spell of really hot weather. Maybe September will be cooler!

It does look like winter here with everything so brown. I am very tired of trying to keep everything watered. Doesn’t look like we’re going to get any rain this week either.

The customers and I were talking at the store yesterday about how green everything stayed this year. Of course being farmers, they are really mad that we have gotten rain the last couple of days as it stops harvesting. Complaining about the weather is a state passtime here LOL.
