Driving through Illinois

We left Wisconsin by 8:30 this morning having said our goodbyes last night we hit the road early.  Still we were driving until a little after 5PM.  The drive from north to south in Illinois is all pretty much the same – boring-  no offense to anyone from Illinois – the interstate driving in most any state is boring – but more convenient and faster than the highways. We are ready to get home after being gone so long ( I am anyway)

Tonight we are still about 8 hours from home and we are camped outside of the town of Benton, IL.

Along the way today the interesting sights we saw:

Windmills and fields – photo is fuzzy and taken while we were driving – you are seeing what I was seeing :)

001

Truck traffic:

008

Pretty clouds:

010

Fields and rivers:

012

Road construction – again photo taken through car window (included splattered bugs):

019

We are now into southern Illinois – the scenery is changing and we are now seeing more trees and less cornfields:

022

Oh no – now we are seeing dried up trees and it is up to 95 degrees!!

024

And more dried trees at the rest area – I am beginning to dread seeing my trees at home:

025

It is 8:30 PM and it is 84 degrees outside – we have not seen it this hot in weeks.  I saw on the weather that it is to be around 100 tomorrow (Saturday) and heat index of 115!!!! OMG it is going to take awhile to get used to this.

Have no idea if I will blog Saturday night after we get home – I have a feeling I will be too tired. I will blog on Sunday though for sure – in between doing laundry and grocery shopping (which will have to be either early if I am up early or in the evening – I don’t think I will be outside much in the afternoon!)  I will need to get back to the quilting frame as well – I can’t air out my house it will be too hot – will have to make due with some cleaning with Lysol to get rid of the musty smell that for sure will welcome me when I open the door!!  Opening door and windows will have to wait for cooler weather.

Sorry for no interesting photos today – you see what I saw :) LOL Vacation is pretty much over :(

Well, I guess yesterday prepared you a little for the temps at home. It has definitely been hot in August. I think the weatherman said over 100 degrees almost every day. And you’re right, the heat index is even worse from sunrise to sunset. But . . . it will be good to get home. And there’s always the air conditioner.

Welcome “almost” home!! We are to hit 100 for the first time this summer on Sunday but will be down in the low 80′s after that. I can’t imagine a 115 heat index and the humidity on top of it….ICK!!

Now you’re getting an idea of why I enjoyed all those nice cool pics of yours! *L* It’s been a record heat-index summer here in Chicago and forced me to move some of my sewing equipment into my bedroom where there is an a/c.

When you get home, have a few of those cool lakes and mountain pics enlarged and use them to try to cool off.

Altho, I don’t think the really HOT area of the country includes your state…….It curls up from TX. So you might be surprised – things may be greener than you think.

I’m not sure Texas runs much hotter than central Arkansas. More humid probably, I know when DH works down in New Orleans, the temperature is cooler there than here, it’s just a LOT more humid. I can’t figure that out either, since half the time the humidity level here is 90-95%. How mucher more humid can it get? LOL

I loved seeing some photos of Illnois- I have a friend that grew up there so it is fun to see what her home land looks like. One of the best part of vacation pictures is remembering the great times one had while visiting there.
Hope you have a good week now you have returned home.
Regards,
Anna
