More on Millhouse Quilts

Several have asked why no photos inside of the store – I was so eager to get inside I didn’t think to bring my camera with me :)   If you go to this link and click on the photo you can take a virtual tour through the store:  http://millhousequilts.com/our-history.php

Also people thought I was too conservative in my shopping!!  LOL  I really and truly do not need a lot of supplies right now.  I have plenty of fabric at home and I try not to buy too many patterns.  I have found in the past that if I buy, buy, buy when at quilt shops chances are that I eventually change my likes and dislikes and I don’t want more patterns sitting around not being used, or fabric that I am thinking “why did I buy that”  instead when I have a new project going and if I don’t have the fabric then I buy because I know what I want.  This way I keep my stash under control and do not have patterns that I will never use.  The first time I went to the Paducah quilt show I came home with so much stuff and I hate to say it but I have not used some of it still and it has been 4 or 5 years!!

Most likely because I do not machine quilt and sometimes handpiece and do a lot of hand applique I do not make as many quilts as some of you and don’t need as large of a stash.

Today was a busy day – the History Museum, lunch, Veterans Museum, and then the Children’s Museum – back to the campground so the kids could use the pool and then back to the house.  I will get photos out from some of the places later.

I admire your resolve, Karen, to keep your stash and pattern collection under control. Alas, my stash is taking over my studio!!! I search the internet for free patterns and print them if I think I might make that quilt in the future. That stack is growing, too. I do like the little Schnibbles patterns. I have 3 or 4 of those.

When I visit my daughters in Kansas and Missouri, I have my ‘favorite’ quilt shops, too. One daughter is a quilter, the other doesn’t quilt, but loves the ones we give her… LOL!!!

Enjoy the rest of your time with the family and have a safe journey home!

I have absolutely no self discipline when it comes to fabric, patterns, and rulers. I just can’t seem to help myself! :)

Since I mostly do applique or small scrappy blocks I rarely buy more than a FQ or 1/2 yard piece of fabric….well except backgrounds. I can’t see to pass up a good applique pattern though LOL.

Sounds like you have a fun day planned.

We stopped at that shop on a bus trip to the Chicago Quilt shop. It was such a nice little shop! I too am really trying NOT to keep buying. I have so much to use up! and so many projects to finish…and more kits that I have forgotten I have. So….good for you being conservative !
