I am amazed I have gotten half of these blocks pieced together the last two days.  Of course it has been just about the only thing I have worked on but it is really going together much easier than I thought it would.

Here it is half way, it is a little larger than the design wall so it is kind of hanging over the sides, but I think you can see what most of the layout is.  I kind of had to prop the design wall on furniture – not much room to work in here!  I’ll take a better photo when I get done with it.  I don’t know if I will be working on it all weekend, most likely not.

Some one asked what kind of backing fabric did I get for the “Going In Circles” quilt – I thought I showed what I had gotten but I hadn’t so here is a photo of it.  I intend to use the darker green that is the vines for the binding.  I think that will go very well.  Besides the vines it is scattered throughout some of the blocks in the main part of the quilt as well.  This backing is a wide back – no seams! I love that they started to make that stuff awhile back.  I use it often.

In between working on everything else that I have been working on this past 6 weeks since we got home from our trip I have also been quilting a smaller quilt which I have showed pictures of now and then.  I had taken it with us on our trip intending to quilt it while we traveled and never got around to it.  Instead it came home with us unfinished.  I put it on the smaller hoop that I normally keep in the living room and I have been working on it in while watching tv.  I have a little more to finish quilting on it (hand quilting also – all I do).  Hopefully it will be finished by the end of next week – I really want to get done with it.  This is the corner that needs to finished – almost done!

I have been pushing myself on a lot of these projects because I really want to get these things finished.  I had started way too many things about two years ago and I don’t want to do that again.  I told myself I wasn’t going to start any new projects until I got some of these finished – that is good incentive isn’t it :)  So far I have been sticking with the plan.

  1. Your Bow Tie Medallion is very impressive. You’ve made such good progress on getting it together. I love scrappy quilts.

Nice fabric choice for your quilt back and the dark green binding will be a perfect finish.

I find it hard to quilt in a hoop, guess I’m spoiled by my nice big floor frame, but it looks like you’re coming along nicely with that project, too!

Happy stitching – on all your project!

  2. The bow-tie medallion is going to be stunning! I’ve never seen one put together this way.

Great color for the circle quilt backing.

I can’t wait to see the applique flower quilt finished. :-)

  4. The backing and the binding are both beautiful. I too love the variety we can get in the backing fabrics now :0)

That bow tie quilt is wonderful Karen, I LOVE the pattern.

I noticed you don’t use extenders when you get to the edge of your quilt, don’t you find it hard to keep the fabric staight when you are right at the edge and in the corners?

  8. I echo what the others have said. The bow tie quilt is coming along great. I love how the white blocks are mixed in with the bow ties to make the large diamond. I love the background fabric for the circles quilt. Have a great weekend.

  12. Wow! You’ve done a lot on the Bow Tie quilt already. It’s going to be another gorgeous quilt! Very beautiful backing you have chosen for the GIC quilt. And soon you have another finish! I’ll try my best NOT TO start any new projects this year, I really want to finish if not all of the quilt tops at least some of them this year. First of all I’m going to make some Christmas gifts to be sent home – I’m late already!
