An Enjoyable Morning

We spent the morning at Bents Old Fort near La Junta here in Colorado this morning.  An old adobe fort from the 1800’s – reconstructed of course!  But they were able to duplicate very closely as one of the builders of the fort left documentation on measurements and drawings.  Pretty neat.  The weather was too – only about 72 degrees!  So sweet.

Some pretty sunflowers along the path leading to the fort

Some squash/gourds? plants on the side also

A little about the fort from the pamphlet

Part of the inside courtyard

This is an unusual cabinet that was inside one of the rooms

This fort was used during the period of time that Buffalo was used a lot – they would press the hides tight and put them in “bales” to ship down the river

One of the many fireplaces – almost every room in the fort has a fireplace and there were many rooms –more than it looked like it would have.

I think I took close to 75 photos of the fort so I think I will do this sightseeing trip in two post!!

More tomorrow Smile I will schedule it to post as we leave sometime in the morning for our next destination – Colorado Springs.

Very interesting to see a real old fort~! Reminds me of some I’ve seen in the movies. Thanks for sharing~!

Old Forts are so cool. We saw one on Dauphin Island. Can’t wait to see more tomorrow.

Isn’t it a great place? I’ve been there a couple of times and of course since Tom grew up in Littleton, and at one point his grandparents lived near La Junta, he’s probably been there many times. Always something interesting to see.
