Design Wall Monday

in quilts

Well I took a break yesterday and plan to again today from both Joseph’s Coat and Star Crazy.  Instead I spent off and on all day yesterday and will again today – Monday working on putting together the Farmer’s Wife blocks!

I got a lot done on Sunday.  I have all the blocks organized and sashing on.  Today I need to put all the half square triangles in place and then sew the rows together.  From there I will decide about a border.

Early in the afternoon Sunday this is what it looked like.  The black just really makes these color pop I think.

Monday morning I am this far,  I am delighted with the progress made.  Some of the blocks I am not satisfied with as they had a bit of black on the outside edges of the blocks and the sashing is black also.  The black is a different color of black – but there you go.  I am working with fabric on the shelves and I’m not buying anything new.  One of the blocks that looks black is actually a dark green but that doesn’t show in the photo and one has a tiny print of pink in it which also doesn’t show up in the photo.  When working with scrappy blocks though you can’t always find a color that you haven’t used – especially not always having it in your stash.  I can live with this quite easily.

Run on over to Judy at Patchwork Times and see what everyone else is working on today.

These nice open white blocks in between the scrappy blocks will have a nice quilted motif of some sort on them to stand out.

Oh wow! Breathtaking. I love black and what it does for a quilt!

I am trying hard NOT to use black sashing on my tiny tiny houses, but I keep going back to it in my mind. I need to make a decision soon.

The black sashing looks great! I worked on my FW quilt last night and got all the corner triangles sewn. Now I just need to put all the rows together.

I think the quilt looks fantastic. The black really frames and brings out the colors in each block. Love it!!!!

Looks great! I haven’t used much black in my quilts, but it provides a great contrast!

When you first mentioned putting on black sashing, I was not so sure that I would like the results. However, now I see that it makes abig difference. Makes those blocks pop for sure. And those empty blocks are just right to show off some of your hand quilting. Looking forward to seeing the results of that.

I really like the black on them. It does break up the blocks and the white. You are moving right along.

Adorable! I am working on my FW blocks and I am not sure what color to sash them with, it is always a dilemma. Love your blocks and I love the colors.

I really really like the black you are using. I don’t think it distracts from the darker blocks at all.

I love the black also, I tried to get another quilter to try black once she thought I had something wrong with me.

Thanks for showing this; I had wondered if they should be made up in different colors. The black does make them stand out.

Doesn’t the black frame make an incredible difference to these blocks?! Love it!

Oh Karen, when black is put on a colourful quilt, it just pops out ! I love this! I’m catching up while enjoying the Florida sunshine.
I cannot get over how tidy your room looks and you must have the biggest design wall ever!
