Design Wall Monday

I missed last week for sharing so this week I have 3 projects that I will be hopping around with.  Go on over to Judy at Patchwork Times and see what everyone is working on.

As if I didn’t have enough projects to work on I have started another – yes I know I said I was going to work on only two until I finished them – not going to happen!  I get bored too easily I guess.

My new project – name to be decided on – working with the red/black/white strips.  Thanks for your opinions on the strips yesterday.  All of the strips are from the same set called “After Hours” from Connecting Threads.  It is weird how that one set of strips didn’t seem to go with the rest but with the way I am using them – it will work out. These will finish at 10 inches I believe although with my usual inaccurate machine piecing they might be trimmed to 10 inches and then finished at 9 1/2

The strips if you didn’t see them yesterday:

I will also get in some hand quilting today on Star Crazy, this is the area I left off on yesterday.

And Joseph’s Coathand piecing,

Surely 3 projects rotating should keep me occupied.  The Farmer’s Wife quilt is a hand quilting project and that will be my take along to quilt group project for now – so I guess I better change that to 4 projects.  This is the next area to start quilting on Friday:

So what are you working on today? Smile

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

I love your 2, no 3, no 4 projects. I can’t just work on one, either. What I like is each of your projects are so different. And then there is the work you do outside, too. Busy, busy, busy.

I think that you needed the 4th one to round out all the handwork you are doing – right? I like the two blocks – I think they will be neat!!

Lots of beautiful stuff going on at your place. Three projects is what I typically like to have going at once, you don’t get bored and you do get things done that way. I’m making a quilt using the Connecting Threads’ After Hours Fabric. I’m loving all the red and black. Definitely a fun line to work with.

Three seems to be a common number of concurrent projects at my house too 🙂 These are all so different and interesting and beautiful–enjoy!

Karen, do you hand quilt with a thimble on your thumb as well as on your finger? Just last year, I’ve been working on teaching myself to quilt with my thumb as well so that I can go forwards and backwards without looking like I’m playing the game Twister on my frame.

I’m getting much more comfortable but my only problem is that I use a spoon when quilting with the thimble on my finger but can’t seem to get the hang of how to hold the spoon when using my thumb. That has made my finger underneath the quilt become the spoon and after quilting for four hours yesterday, my poor finger was trashed. I thought you might have a better way after looking at how many directions your quilting stitches go.

Wish you had access to a recorder so we could watch you quilt. I’m sure we would all learn a lot. Thanks for all your sharing.

Hey Karen, Love your strippy blocks and although I don’t know what your plans are for them, wondered if you have considered making a Bento Box quilt out of them? I recently did a block swap with my small quilt group and the Bento Box block was what I asked for. Got a bunch of them and made both a wall quilt and a table runner. Each member made a block like yours and then I cut them in quarters and mixed them up and sewed them back together. I had been wanting to make one of these for quite a while so was happy to do it this way.

Your 2 blocks looked like the Pandora’s Block quilt. I recently quilted one of these for a customer. I love your Star Crazy quilt. Your handquilting looks amazing too. I’m not good at handquilting, but I keep trying. It looks like you get lots done with all the projects you’ve started. Nice work.

Scary how many projects we tend to do at once isn’t it? Love the new one, is it going to be a modern type quilt?
