Little Gadgets

in quilts

I went shopping yesterday for a change.  I am not much of a shopper anymore – I used to like it.  I like to find nice little gadgets that you don’t really need but are nice.  This summer with high heat and drought has made me a bit of a couch potato though and I have been inside a lot and not doing much other than sewing/quilting/reading.  I do go to the fitness center most days but yesterday I felt the need to get out of the house, take a drive to the nearest town that is a bit larger (45 miles from me) than my closest town and just wander through some shops.

First I hit Target and found a strong sturdy cover for the fire pit.  Of which I have only used once this year – back in the spring shortly before a burn ban was called.  I have a thin plastic type of cover for it but it really needed something sturdy.  The summer close out sales are starting and I was able to find a nice one for a good price.  I also found a nice light weight gray button down sweater to keep in the car – I say keep in the car because I am the type of person who needs a sweater in the summer when we go to the movies or out to eat – I freeze in those places, some keep the A/C so cold.  I keep it in the car so it is nice and handy.

Next was some wandering in and out of shops just looking – Pier 1, TJ Maxx, Kohls  those type of stores.  Didn’t find anything but a pair of pajamas on sale.  Got back in the car and drove over to Hancock’s to see what they had and didn’t find a thing I wanted for the sewing room – I hadn’t been in it for some time and I was surprised to find it looking more like Hobby Lobby – rows and rows of Hobby kind of stuff.

Next was back in the car with the GPS on to find the new super large Kroger store that just opened.  I wanted to see what it was like – the super stores sell furniture, dishes, and jewelry besides groceries.  I liked it! Wish it was closer.  I picked up a few groceries that I needed as I had put a ice chest in the car just in case I got anything that needed to stay cold.

But anyhow – finally what gadget did I find?  This “green thing” I don’t remember the name of it and I already tossed the packaging away – put your tea bag in it like this:

006

Set the tea bag in your cup of hot water (demo only, I didn’t feel like tea this morning)

007

When your tea is ready, pull the string to put the tea bag all the way up under the “green thing”

008

Squeeze the water out of the tea bag.

009

Now yes I know I can do this with my fingers but I thought this was kind of neat Smile and it cost under $5.00 I think – I actually don’t remember now but I know me I wouldn’t have picked it up if it was much more than that!  And it keeps your tea warm while it is seeping.

As I say I am not much of a shopper anymore – sad but I enjoyed the grocery store the most!  I left the house at noon and I was home by 4:30 – and that is with a 45 mile drive in both directions – I guess I got the shopping out of my system with that little bit and it was 100 degrees – I was walking slow in between those shops and the A/C felt so good when I went in the stores.

I’ll post some quilting stuff later today.

Oh, I love your little green thing. I made a cup of tea Tuesday while away from home and had to use my fingers (burned) and would have loved to have that. I will have to look in our stores for something like it.

I agree about shopping. The most I like to do is looking around in antique shops where I still am tempted by usually don’t buy. Oh, and quilt shops, too, where I usually do buy.

You sound so much like me! I used to enjoy all types of shopping (especially groceries) but now, not so much. Love your “tea thingy”! A good cup of tea, once in a while, is so soothing and a great afternoon break (I am a “coffee-holic”). The idea of carrying a sweater for the A/C in various places is a MUST! I, also, carry a lap sized blanket in the car for feet/legs in the front passenger seat. Wish the duct didn’t ‘shoot’ out where it does!! Temps have dropped (right now 70F) after last eve’s 0.33″ of rain….very thankful!….but the humidity remains at 90%. DH describes it as “dank”. Better than the 100F we have been having. Don’t know how much help this is for the corn crop, though. Another great sewing day!!!! Hugs, D

I hardly ever go shopping anymore, and last night spent 4 hours at a near by Mall. Something must have been in the air that motivated us to go! We have a huge, amazing Mall only a few blocks away, and I think I’ve only been there 2 or 3 times in the last year. I’d much rather stay home and quilt! (or read:)

I don’t like to shop in stores! Yesterday we had a short trip to town and I didn’t find very many of the things I had on my list. I used to shop Penneys online, but it seems their clothing isn’t the quality it used to be. Inside, the store was cold in places, then outside it was terribly HOT!
