Flower Hexie’s and New Quilt

The flower hexies are coming along – I’m not sure how many more are needed – there are several different types of flowers I will be using so next up might be a different kind.  What I have so far –  these are just tossed here – this is not the end arrangement – I’m just checking to see what they look like.  I will have embroidery or bias vines and appliqued leaves on there also – plus buds.

They applique will be on two opposing corners.

The new project – no name for it.  I hadn’t intended to start another – what happened is we originally had planned a trip to New Mexico that was to be about 4 – 5 weeks.  Mike’s time off changed and we went to 2 1/2 weeks to WI instead.  I had started putting together a quilt top that was going to be part machine pieced and part hand piecing intending to do the hand piecing on the road.  I machine pieced the pieced triangles from a jelly roll that I got on a very good sale – about half price a couple months ago.  The white fabric I got basically for free – a dollar a yard.    I had everything cut out and ready to work on and then left it at home as I knew I wouldn’t get around to working on it.  I decided now that we were back home to machine piece the whole thing and get it done.  Right now it is 53 x 64 I think.  I want to put one or two skinny borders around it to finish it off a little bit.  I have no matching fabric so I need to look through the stash and see what I come up with.  I might practice machine quilting straight lines on this one like I have done several times in the past as I have too many waiting in line to hand quilt.  The quilt is pinned to felt on the wall so it is kind of sagging in places and still needs to be squared up also.

A chilly day this has turned out to be and for the next several I guess.  I wonder how much quilting I can get done with this weekend?

More vacation post following this one and through out the weekend – maybe I can get done with this early in the week?

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

I’ve been thinking of using hexagon flowers for an appliqued border on a pieced top for some time. Thanks for reminding me. I’ll be watching yours closely and know it will look wonderful.

The quilt is beautiful! I’ve recently started wanting to quilt-again. I’ve been searching quilting blogs looking for inspiration.

I love the triangle quilt, I have been seeing a few of those around lately and I want to make one, it is on the “I Want To Make” list. I’m sure you will find something in your stash to make the borders with.

I like the triangle quilt. Did you follow a patten or did you just wing it? Thanks for sharing.
