Got Started on Tumblers

This Tumble quilt top is going to be a very scrappy old fashion looking small quilt top.  I haven’t quite figured out size but I have gotten started.  I tend to get kind of messy when working with the sewing machine ec. – how about you?

First things first – move the laptop out of the way and it usually gets balanced on top of the printer Smile right now with the chilly weather we are having I get the cup warmer plugged in and get a cup of tea heated up – I tend to sip and right now with the chilly weather it seems like a cup of tea gets cold within 5 minutes!

Get a row stacked up and ready to sew – these are 5 inch tumblers – working with big pieces and nice and easy – fast!

011

For a little bit I have the beginnings of some rows laid out on the cutting table and the ironing board set up next to it.  This did not last long – got too big! (yes I have Common Bride still on the wall in the sewing room – I will get back to it soon)

012

Pieces stacked up every where-what a mess!

014

Time to get up the portable design wall – now things are divided between the dining room and sewing room – I will get a little bit of steps in for exercise at least by walking back and forth Smile these are all sewed into rows but the rows are not connected – I will have the rows grow some more and that is easier if they are not connected.

015

Stacks of tumblers now on the table – more room and close to the design wall.  I had 40 – 10 inch squares, each cut into 4 pieces – 160 pieces to work with.  I might mix in a couple more pieces here and there from the stash if I need to but I’m really not sure right now.  I think next well be to stick all the pieces up on the wall and see what I have to work with -

I have a dentist appointment today so lets see what I can get done with before and after that.  the Dizzy quilt is in the dryer – binding done, washing done – I will post a photo later today when it is done.

It looks good! I usually have fabrics all over the sewing table when I work on a project, it’s always a mess, but it can’t be done different. :) All the best at the dentist!

One of my favorite styles: Tumblers.
And too funny, as I woke up this morning, after a good night’s sleep, I had decided I was going to make (or atleast cut out) a smaller tumbler for my kitchen island today. And then here you are posting about yours. Is it “great minds” thinking alike? Nah – I don’t have one, LOL

Funny, I just bought the Gutermann 100% natural cotton thread cabinet that you have on your wall. I imagine you use yours for hand piecing? I love the threads in mine so far.

Just wanted to say thank you. I find your posts inspiring. I always have a few projects going and feel a little guilty. It’s nice to see someone else juggle.

That is coming together great! I got to work on hubby’s quilt a little today, not quite as much as yesterday, but it is looking doable to finish in time for his birthday.
