Between exercise yesterday afternoon, a run to Wal-Mart and finishing a book I did not get as much done on the Picnic Quilt – aka tumbler blocks as I planned too. I did spend the morning putting 5 rows together (the ones at the top) and then ripped one whole row off and sewed back down again after I had somehow turned it around and didn’t realize it until I was pressing the seam and saw two of the same one above the other – I knew I hadn’t done that in the lay out – looked it over and realized I had turned it upside down. Row #1 2nd tumbler block from the left ended up above row #3 2nd last block from the right – exactly the same color ![]()

Vivian was right in yesterdays comments – this will make a perfect picnic table cover when we are traveling won’t it. It should be just the right size too I bet. I might need to make a couple placemats though to put our plates and silverware on though so we don’t end up with barbecue stains on the quilt! (actually with all these prints spilled barbecue sauce might not even show up!)
Maybe I will get 5 more rows put together today? And yes I think I agree with the most of you – I am going to cut the sides straight so it will be easy to bind it. This is after all supposed to be an easy quilt – why make the binding hard to do

Just catching up on your activities. love the picknic quilt. It is truly cheery. If you look for laminated clear place mats, you’d see the quilt while camping.
This morning, the wind is so fierce that we are having trouble opening the door of our unit. The winds are coming in huge gusts with sideways rain. The price to pay for having had so much good weather.
I read too, but usually only in bed which is about 10 pages till lights out. I knit while sitting in the sun here in Florida.
Good to read you are well.
That picnic quilt is coming along nicely. And you are right, spills will not show up real well! Always a plus for a table quilt .

I love the tumblers..how many layer cakes did you use? And a very dumb construction question. You sewed rows.. What about the blocks side by side ? Did you sew those first? Then the rows? Sorry if my question isn’t clear just trying to understand.

It does look like a perfect picnic quilt! Very fun looking.:)
Ooooh… I love the idea of it being a picnic table cover! That would be just perfect! I like the idea of clear silicone mats so you could see it too.

Looks like you have been having fun. Clear place mats sounds a good idea otherwise it would fade and wear out too quickly with washing often. When our children were younger I put thick clear plastic over a lovely table cloth, then I only had to wipe the plastic down after each meal. DH didn’t like it but then he was not wash and ironing a table cloth each day. Straight sides sounds good too.
