I have been asked numerous times – “how do you get done with so much!” My answer is always the same – Smile what a difference it makes to not have children in the house, no pets, not much in line of other hobbies (other than reading, taking photos and hiking when traveling)  a husband that works rather long hours – but you know what the number one thing is – hand piecing!  Hand piecing is so portable – it goes room to room with you.  If I am sitting down to watch the news – I reach for one of the hexie projects or applique  – the new Hexie project I am working on “Diamonds are Forever” one diamond shape only takes about 20 to 25 minutes to make depending on how I concentrate on it.  Hand piecing really is a lot easier than some people think it is and once you get going with it you find that it is a lot easier than you ever thought it would be.

I got my next “Floral Fantasy” block glue basted in place.  I traded out the yellow shade that I had picked out for a different one that was a little brighter – the first yellow was too pale.  This block doesn’t look like much right now but once the applique starts and the blue flower gets the petals showing better it will look better – right now the light blue is like a big blob – no detail.  Same with the brownish color flower blob on the lower part Smile  Lets hope some detail starts on it when the stitching starts.

Patchwork of the Crosses – one more block done and one more with the color choices picked out.

I didn’t get around to printing out more hexies yesterday but I’m going to try to today.  My quilt group was cancelled this morning so I should have plenty of time to work on it if I set my mind to it.  I did get one more diamond stitched though – so that makes 3 down and how many left to do LOL  something like 200+ oh well it isn’t like I think this is going to get done in a month or two right?

I wasn’t able to quite line those strips up right but then with 200+ diamonds who the heck is going to notice Smile

I got my order rather quickly from the Missouri Quilt Company it arrived yesterday – only 4 days after I ordered it – the colors of the jelly roll weren’t quite what I thought they would be though – rather duller in color than I thought they would be – I’m not sure now if I will use them in the Diamonds are Forever quilt – they might have to be saved for another project – I do have to start looking through the stash though for more colors to mix in with this quilt – I don’t have a lot in the 1880’s type of colors but I think I can find some.

I can remember the days when the farmer went back to work after retiring the first time; I had all the farm work to do, but made more progress on my quilts than at any other time. I think it had something to do with being at least ten years younger. Now I guess I’m slower and have so many things I want to do before the eyes go and the hands tremble.

Those colors for the Patchwork of the Crosses are just beautiful!

I can’t begin to image the work that goes into dealing with a farm Charlotte and wonder how you got your quilting done too! but when you are by yourself for most of the day we make our hours don’t we!

Your piecings are coming right along. Like the chosen colors for that next POTC! Sometimes it is quite difficult to judge on-line colors but there is always some (future) use for them! Sorry your quilt group was cancelled. Ours, last Wed. eve, was a bit of a challenge to get to but with only 3 of us living out of town (on ridges) we decided to try and had 8 show. Glad we went ahead as everyone was so in need of a quilty fix!!! Temps are -2F (warmer than the -8 when I got up!) and off to a small quilt shop after lunch……Never too cold for that!!! LOL! Hugs, D

I love very much that “Floral Fantasy” block. It is awesome beautiful and it would be suitable for heraldry!
