Rainbow Quilt

You know how you know what you are doing and then all of a sudden you don’t!  Well that is what happened today as I was working on the rainbows Smile

These blocks are nice and easy – we can all tell that from looking at the photo right – you can tell just by looking at it what to do – not the measurements of the side half square triangles – but I can figure that out later – but look at those bars – that’s easy right?

I got all the strips sewed and pressed and then I was just fooling around on the table looking at them and thinking ok I’m going to need to get that design wall out again and put it in place – when I noticed they didn’t go together right.  Luckily it only took me a moment to realize what was wrong – I have actually made this same mistake a different time making a quilt using blocks like this but in a different pattern.  These are made from a charm package right? that means 5 inch x 5 inch blocks – cut in half – then sewed with a white strip – including your seam allowance that makes them 5 x 4 1/2”  that doesn’t go together!!

002

Easy fix in that you need to cut a half inch off of the length – but there are 168 of them to trim!! Sad smile  they have to measure 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 – with as much experience as I have at this I should have known that right off the bat – guess I was kind of forgetful.

I have made a start at it – I don’t think I will get the design wall out until tomorrow.  I’m about half way done trimming.

My haircut worked today! :)   I went to a place that I have gone to in the past and I’m not sure of what reason I had for not going back.  The same young lady cut my hair today that did about a year and a half ago odd coincidence as they seem to move around a lot these girls – she even remembered me!  I had lost her card that time and we were traveling a lot and when we got back home I had completely forgotten what she looked like even so I never ended up back at the same place.  She listened to me, cut it how I wanted it, I have her card – I put her name and number in my phone – now lets see if in about 6 weeks she can do it the same way :)

Oh bummer Karen! At least it is fixable. And will of course, be fabulous once you’ve finished it! :)

yes CJ it was an easy fix but annoying! all cut and I will get the design wall tomorrow – looks like a winter mix of weather for us tomorrow – I will probably be home sewing.
Miriam I am so glad I was cursing as I left the beauty shop – that can set me off all day!!

If only all out ‘oops’ moments were that easy to fit!

Just checked my last appointment at the hairresser, Nov 13, guess it’s time for another but paying $35 hurts too.

WOW! A new project! I have done such a mistake too.. I use to say; brain dead – reset! LOL It’s so boring to correct such a mistake, but at least you are able to fix it! I have given up hairdressers here…. I’ve been to several to cut my hair short, but every time it looked like I came out of a spinner! :( I let it grow and trim it regular myself.

Sew funny…simples mistakes most of us have made! Glad you found a good gal to do your hair. I have to search for someone in Paris this week…I’m very worried…I color my hair and have my formulas but it makes me very nervous! There are salons that have English speaking stylist…there are 30,000 Americans living in Paris…I just have to find a good one. In Alaska in have a gal I’ve been going to for 15 years…she has become a great friend…and a new quilter!
