Jelly Roll Quilt

We went and saw a movie yesterday  – “A Good Day to Die Hard” yes John McClane of Die Hard fame – aka Bruce Willis is still alive and kicking and gets to be in just as rough shape as he always does by the end of the movie and so does junior.  I won’t give anything away in case someone wants to see it yet and hasn’t.  I love action movies – what can I say! Smile  I actually saw the original first 3 Die Hard movies more than once and was so glad they had a new one a couple years ago with his daughter in it and now this one with his son.

I have had a Jelly Roll sitting on the shelf forever – like two years I think! – finally I started last night to think about it and come up with my own design for it – something nice and easy – I have no idea how big this quilt will grow as I haven’t really figured out any sizes, just started to cut and sew. No name at the moment for it.  I found the background fabric in 3 different areas on my shelves – you can see how I really need to go through this fabric – but seeing as I found so much of it in so many pieces I got busy cutting 5 inch blocks and I’m using it.

I have a lot left to use -  this may be couch size when I get done.

One of my readers Sarah from Upstate NY Creations told me of a product for keeping fabric on shelves neat and I have sent off for some – cardboard for comic books & magazines! I’m not really sure how people use them for comic books and magazines but I have a package of 100 pieces coming to me and it wasn’t costly at all – I ordered from Amazon.  These are pre-cut pieces of cardboard about 8 1/2 x 11 and you can just wrap your smaller pieces of fabric around them and stand them up on the shelf and see what you have.  I will get busy organizing when I get them. Sarah said she has used them for up to 3 yards or so of fabric on a board.

So many purple finches were around yesterday morning – I could look outside and it looked like the ground was moving there were so many bird out there

What a nice looking woodpecker, but he stayed on the side where I couldn’t get a good shot of him.

those finches just go crazy, so many of them!  They are like this every morning.

OMG! Save me! I hate action movies! I always have, usually get bored after first 4-5 minutes – LOL! Local TV showed ‘The house of the Spirits’ last night – based on Isabel Allende’s book. I have it in the shelf too, but loved watching it again. Best of all; it was not dubbed in French! OOH! Love your jelly roll quilt! Very nice colors! Never seen purple finches… so cute!

We saw Lincoln about 3 weeks ago and I found it so boring! I got up and went to the bathroom and took my time – even checked my mail! If I had got up and left this movie I would have missed something for sure!

Hi Karen,
Love your jelly roll quilt.
There is a roll in my stash that I have not used as yet. In truth I am not certain as to why I bought it. The colours are definitely not ones that I would normally choose so I suspect that it was a “deal” that I could not overlook.
Seeing your quilt has motivated me to give the fabric another look. It has promise. Thank you for sharing!
Life is a little quieter in these parts with Nanci and her Sweetie in Florida for the winter. Within 6 to 8 weeks we will all be back at the lake creating havoc. Can hardly wait!
Be well,
Helen (Nanci’s Private Teacher)

That is a cute little quilt on the wall. Those fabrics are adorable. LOVE the birdies—we haven’t seen many purple finches this year but lots of house finches and song sparrows. I do love those feathered friends. :)

I love seeing the birds! We always had a cat until a couple of years ago so I never felt it was right for me to put up a bird feeder…my cat was a great hunter…but many years ago when we lived in San Antonio we had a hummingbird feeder and I loved watching the birds getting the sugar water. Paris is full of pigeons…maybe when the gardens start coming into bloom I will find some pretty birds to watch.

Those finches are too cute. I ahve never seen ones that color. We get the yellow and brown ones here. But every once in a while I get a nice pileated woodpecker on the feeder.

CanNOT wait until the purple finches return…….along with the robins! Then I will begin to think the seasons are changing!! Tomorrow’s storm warning sounds to be some major snow for us! Guess it really is our turn, since the storm tracks have been way south, for the most part! On to the NASCAR race!!!
Love the jelly roll quilt. A ton of neutrals showing up this season! Hugs, Doreen

Have you seen “Snitch”?!! Oh WOW!! Was that ever action-packed..and “The Rock” is certainly easy on the eyes. HA!! It was great!

I refuse to watch Bruce Willis since he’s anti-gun and quite vocal about it, but then all his movies are full of gun violence.

I love woodpeckers, they are so cool to watch! I should get a bird feeder for the RV.

I have all of my smaller stash fabric on mini bolts, they work pretty good, although I think after a few years of storing them that way, I prefer them folded (3 yards or less).

Nice impromptu jelly roll quilt! I’m making something with a bali pop right now. They are fun to work with since the cutting’s all done. People in my guild are all making those jelly roll race quilts, but I find them a bit too jumbled. Yours has a nice, soft look about it. Hmmmm…

We just saw the trailer for that movie and thought it looked good, so that will definitely make our “To Watch” list now. The woodpecker was obviously shy, are the coloured finches the males? it’s quite enjoyable watching the birds at the feeder whatever country they are in. :)

Hubby and I saw that movie on Friday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s the first movie I have managed to stay awake for in ages.

Nice choice for using your jelly roll.

I’m not really sure how people use them for comic books and magazines but I have a package of 100 pieces coming to me and it wasn’t costly at all – I ordered from Amazon.

The cardboard keeps the comic books looking like new. I collect a few different comics, and use the cardboard and clear plastic sleeves. I’ve also used the cardboard for some old copies of various magazines that I won on ebay. Slip a clear plastic sleeve over them and the cardboard, and they still look like new. I love action adventure movies, loved Die Hard but haven’t watched those in a while. Yesterday, I did catch the tail end of Fat & Furious (2009).

That’s one thing we forgot to do this year, put out our bird feeders.
