I decided to make two baby quilts out of that jelly roll using the same color scheme. AND I still have some strips left over! Of course I might use some of them to add on to what is on the wall right now, but I am almost out of back ground fabric so those strips might end up in binding instead.
Everything is just stuck up on the flannel right now – the 4 patches are sewn together but the rows aren’t done yet.

I have enough blocks to make it a little wider I just have to sew some of this together first so I will have room for it on the wall.

Things are kind of gathering up on the end of the quilting frame - the Rainbow quilt is awaiting borders, the Common Bride quilt is waiting for me to figure out what I want to do with it next – this is one of those quilt tops that you really think you want to make and then when you get started with it you loose interest in it. Maybe later in the year I will get back to it and the Floral Fantasy (William Morris in Applique) I somehow lost interest in both of them right now. As you can see I have some of the jelly roll strips laying over this too, the background fabric and the quilt from yesterday. I should get my new walking foot any day now and then I will see about machine quilting straight lines of some sort on that one probably but maybe I will decide to hand quilt one of these baby quilts – I’m not sure – I have thought of using Perle Cotton and do the kind of big stitch quilting for something different – if you use that thread what size do you get for the quilting? – I see it comes in a variety of sizes. I would have to order it if I decide to use it as there is none around here that I know of.

Of course I haven’t given up hand quilting!! I actually got in a little work today on the frame after I moved some things out of the way. Bow Tie Medallion – a little progress is better than none. I might even get a little more done on it today.

Last night while watching the news I picked up the Patchwork of the Crosses and got another block attached to the row – one more block to go and I will be able to add this one on to the bottom of the quilt.

You have inspired me to start cutting my scraps into workable sizes so I will have them in neat stacks! Of course this came to me at 3:30 this morning when I got up with a headache! Haha. Funny how all our great ideas and lists always come to us in the sleepless hours!! Love the baby quilts!

Slow and steady wins the race! I am struggling with a quilt right now and have to force myuself to get back to it. I decided last night to move onto another part and go back to the step giving me issues.

The baby quilts look really nice and they appear to be coming together quickly. I like the fabric choices as the overall look and simplicity says that its a child’s quilt, but its not overly baby-ish… if you know what I mean.
I’ve also been struggling with some quilts lately. I don’t really want to start any new projects as I have a few that I need to finish up, but I feel like I’m losing steam on some of these current projects since they’ve been hanging around a bit. I think I need some small and quick…like a table runner to help get my groove back!

Hi Karen,

wow, you are productive!
If you want to use perle cotton for big stitch quilting, use the size 8. (The bigger the number, the thinner the thread. The one you normally use for embroidery is size 5. )
Go for it, it is so much fun!

I love the pale blue and brown, such pretty colours and hand quilting is coming along nicely.

You are obviously having a lot of fun with the more simple baby quilts right now! Great way to recharge your brain.:)
I like the colors in the top quilt.

I’ve never done big stitch quilting, (on my list of things to learn), but I’ve read to use size 8 pearl cotton and a sashico needle.
For the big stitch quilting, I’ve used size 8 or size 12 thread. I have a heck of a time finding a good needle though.
I’m in a rut like you and your commenters above. Maybe there’s a quilting virus going around. I’ve been playing with applique techniques instead of actually working on any of my current projects.

I use those comic book backer boards as well. I have a deal w my local store, the boards they get when the books come in they just toss out. He saves them for me and I bring him cookies
Lots of beautiful quilt tops to finish! I love making quilt tops, but the finishing often goes slow… I’m always sidetracked with new projects!
