That is the name of the BOM that I will be taking part in for the next 18 months or however long it takes to make it!  My fabric arrived.  I know I wasn’t going to be buying fabric this year but this is a special quilt and I really (really!) didn’t have what I needed Smile  it arrived today so fast!   Japanese taupes.  I will be using Moda Bella Snow for the background and throwing in some pieces here and there from the stash and probably getting more fat quarters here and there also.  (almost all of these were on sale so I pretty much stayed in my goal of sale shopping only)  (kind of sounds like an excuse doesn’t it LOL Smile )

Some from the stash that might go in the mix – not sure on all of these – they are maybe’s as I get to more of the quilt.

this part is Part 1 and it is just cut out not sewn together yet – I need to cut out the rest of the compass first and then get going on it so I can keep up with it – part 2 comes out July 15th.  I decided to change the center circle – just one color not two as in the photo.  With the blue felt that this is on you can’t see how well the blue goes with the brown – but it does!

Who would think that on July 1st in Arkansas it would be cool enough to sit around the firepit in the evening and actually be comfortable! it was a blissful 76 degrees at 8 PM we had the fire going for about an hour before coming in last night.  Cool front – down to 60 last night.  Really sometimes in the summertime even at 8 at night it isn’t comfortable to sit outside because of the humidity but it is so dry out the last couple days – Bliss!

Yesterday I got more of the squares and half squares ready for Patchwork of the Crosses for the straight edge border, I had run out and needed to get busy cutting more – 1 1/2 sides done – need to get going on it and get this one done!

Quilting is progressing on the frames as well!

  1. Good heavens! I just took a look at Esther’s website and that quilt looks HARD! I will admire it as you work on it, but I think I’ll stick to my Edyta Sitar house quilt which is going very slowly. I have three more sets of windows and doors – rectangles to applique. At the VT Quilt Fest. I got a new book by Nancy Rink called “Away from Home” which has a very sweet quilt pattern to honor the mill girls at Lowell, Mass. It’s tempting, but I need to get working on finishing a few things first. I love the fabrics you chose for your Esther quilt, though. Very subtle!

  2. Lovely fabrics you have chosen. It is so exciting to work on this quilt. We have very cool summer so far – nice quilting weather!

  7. Karen, what are you using for your organizer (bottom picture)? I like how it is compact and looks reasonable to carry around.

  8. Loving your colors Karen. I’ve placed an order and like you will be using fabrics from the stash too. So I’ll be a bit late starting. Such fun :)

  10. Japanese taupes are a major favorite of mine and I can hardly wait to see your compass finished. Love your stash fabrics you’ve chosen as well to go with the taupes especially the burgundy and the green that looks like velvet. Stunning!

  11. Good on you for joining the new BOM. I looked at it, picked my jaw up off the floor and decided I might just print off the patterns for now. Maybe when I stop work!

I am excited as I just bought some nice sale fabric – good quality for $15 per metre – which is over half price here. Oh how I wish I lived in the USA – your prices are so good! Enjoy
