Baby Quilt

in quilts

As I posted earlier today Amy’s Creative Side is having her bi-annual quilt festival and she has a lot of categories that you can enter quilts into –  The quilt I show below is going into the Baby Quilt category.  You can enter two quilts into the categories provided – I read it wrong and was going to enter quilts into other categories but deleted the post after rereading the instructions.

I designed this quilt from part of a jelly roll by Bunny Hill that I had won the previous year.  I ended up making two baby boy quilts from the one jelly roll mixed with some cream color fabric that was in the stash. Not bad for a win!  The quilt is machine pieced and hand quilted.

I am looking down at it so it doesn’t look straight – but it is.  I wish a had a good place to display quilts!

I did big stitch hand quilting on this quilt with Perle cotton thread #12.  It was the first time I did big stitch quilting and as an experienced hand quilter I had to keep reminding myself to take big stitches – you get very used to taking small stitches and working with a much smaller needle than this one took.   The batting was Quilter’s Dream request loft 100% cotton to give the quilt the antique crinkly look.

For the binding I used strips of leftover jelly roll and had a very scrappy binding on both of the quilts that I made from it.

I love the softness of this quilt. Your hand quilting is beautiful! That is something I have yet to try.

Lovely – your hand-stitches are so even!
