First Day of Winter

How to Make a Pieced Hexagon, quilts, Red & Green Traditional Applique, weather, William Morris in Applique-Floral Fantasy

For our first day of winter we had about 20 hours of rain! Water running all through the yard, puddled in pools – and what did I do – I ventured out once to check the mail and spent most of the day sewing and making Chocolate Chip Cookies – Mike’s one yearly request for Xmas cookies – why? I don’t understand it – you can have those any time of the year – I make them all year round – but he wanted chocolate chip so those were made yesterday.

After Lily went home on Friday night I sat at the frame of course and got some quilting in on the Red and Green – someone recently asked me how do I set up the laptop to watch Netflix while quilting – here it is – it sits right up there on the last bar and the fabric – I do not put it anywhere on the quilt top itself where it might have blue lines from the marking pen – remember no heat of any kind and the computer does put off heat.

I decided to make a sewing machine cover with those pieced hexies that I found the other day when I was cleaning up slightly – I will show the complete project later – this is how I marked the center and then I carefully used the sewing machine to sew these big hexies together!  and it worked!! of course the pieced hexies I had printed with Inklingo so I had lines to follow and knew where to stop – so nice! I had never used the machine with an Inklingo project.

I mention Craftsy off and on through out the month to update you on special prices on the fabric and classes as I am an affiliate – and I have a question – has anyone taken one of their classes – on Knitting Socks! not quilting Smile – I have so often mentioned that I would like to learn how to knit socks and they have three classes listed – has anyone taken any of those classes and how did you like them – could you let me know.  Which one would you recommend for a beginner? I know how to cast on and do the simple knit & purl stitches but just plain for like a scarf – I have never used 3 needles at once or done a complex pattern.

And I finished the applique on the block I was working on for the Floral Fantasy quilt – one more block left to do down in the right hand corner and then the border!  I might work on prepping that block today.

It seems like you are close to finishing several projects! My sons are just like Mike…chocolate chip cookies were always requested for Christmas even though I would also make them all throughout the year. They know what they like.

20 hours of rain? I guess it’s better than the ice you’ve had to deal with lately.
Chocolate chip cookies on a rainy day sounds like comfort food.

I’m a big-time sock knitter. Knit them, design them, whatever. If you need any help, please feel free to ask. They are such fun to do; sock yarn is easy to work with; you end up with toasty feet.

I have been wanting to learn to knit socks also. I can crochet and made one sock and never made the other one. lol Now I have no idea where on the web I found the pattern.

I haven’t taken a class but want to learn to knit socks too. The cuff down class seams like the more beginner class

Your floral fantasy blocks are looking great! Can’t believe how many you have finished up now. Pretty nifty set up with the computer and hand quilting!

Floral fantasy looks fantastic!! Really love the contrast with the black and brights.

I like knitting with 3 needles but the only sock I made – note I said sock singular! – was tough right around the heel. It looked cute but I decided not to work on a second one. I don’t even know what I did with it. 🙂 I do enjoy making mittens, though. Once when I was on jury duty, I knitted 7 before my time was up!

I just finished a class at my local yarn shop on making two socks at a time, toe up on one circular needle – magic loop. I wore the socks today and have started two more pair. I am in love with sock knitting!

It’s raining, timewise even pouring here as well – so no hope of white Christmas this year 🙁 You’ve been a busy bee again, as usual, so many things progressing at the same time! The hexies are turning into a beautiful quilt, too.
I wish you a Merry Christmas!
