Granny Blocks! I got two more done yesterday and another one laid out to do today.  It sounds like some of you work a lot during the day on your quilting/sewing.  Some days I do a lot more than other days – I rarely sew for more than an hour though before I feel the need to get up and walk around and do something else.

Granny Blocks:

And seeing as I have quite a few blocks already that have red in them I thought I better do one without and then I noticed there is red in the beige print – oh well that is tiny Smile if I do a queen size I will be doing about 80 more or these! or something like that — if I do sashing less.  Red just makes a quilt pop though doesn’t it – scrappy quilts need some pop.  I do not know what size this will turn out to be – I do have a lot of scraps to go through and some how I do not think the canvas box that I am taking 2 1/2 inch strips out of is going to look that much different – it never does to me in previous experience.  You see that little pile of squares in the upper left of this photo – I am remembering to cut whatever that is left over immediately into more scrappy squares to put in the scrap boxes!  yeah for me – I will learn to get this organized!

I have managed to get most of one corner finished on the Floral Fantasy – two more flowers to do and all the centers and I can move to the next corner – before you know it the corners will be done and on to the border design.  This is kind of draped over a pillow so what doesn’t look even really is, just the way it is laying!  I didn’t work on Uncommon Common Bride on Tuesday but I did last night and will take another photo of that one soon.

It was downright chilly yesterday – the wind was strong and only 40 for a high out here.  I walked to the mailbox and was glad I had my winter jacket on – it isn’t along walk, short really – but long enough to feel the chill bite.  I hope it will be a little warmer today as it will be freezing on Friday I heard in the 30’s – hope it won’t be windy!

Today I will try to do another granny block or two, I like muffins for breakfast so I need to bake some more – I like to make a dozen or two and stick them in the freezer – pop one in the microwave and instant breakfast – I am not that much of a breakfast cooker – I’m lazy in the morning and always have been.

  4. I think that’s why I’ve never been drawn to scrappy quilts. To me, they come across as too blah…..in need of 1 ‘pop’ of color that will unify the whole. Yours is going to be great with the red.
30F and horizontal snow yet again!! There were/are(?) blizzard warnings for just West of here so that’s probably the reason the breezes are pretty stiff. Great day for sewing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. At least you’re honest about being lazy in the morning LOL. And you more than make up for it by all you get done the rest of the day. Those granny blocks are looking great!

  6. While you folks are feeling the harsh winter cold at the moment, spare a thought for the professional tennis players at the first major world tournament (Grand Slam) of the year in Melbourne, Australia. They are experiencing a heatwave like never before, today’s temperature is expected to peak at 44.celcius or 111.farenheit. Imagine running around in that! I think I will stick to my applique, comfy chair and cool drink.

  7. Forgot to say that I am in New Zealand, and, like the children’s story of the three bears, we are like baby bear “just right” about halfway between the weather extremes!

  8. Now that is a block I can piece. I get bored with piecing too, and to be honest beyond squares I am just not that good at it. I prefer sewing strings and applique. But I have learned that if I piece first thing in the morning and only do one block, they turn out much better.

  9. 80!!!! Surely not… 36 plus 2 inch sashings is 99 x 99 (with 3, 2 inch borders). But I’m loving them!
