Patchwork of the Crosses & A Sale

Wednesday night I rolled the quilting frame down once again and now I can actually see the last border at the very top of the frame! This is amazing to me – I am quilting much faster than normal and working on it steady –  this is about queen size although it is a little smaller than I had thought it was – for some reason I thought I had made it 100 x 100 inches like I usually do and I just measured it and on the frame stretched it is 93 x 93 oops!  how did that happen?  I really do not know.  It will still fit the bed but it won’t have as much overhang as I like.  There will be some shrinkage when it is washed.  I think when I measured it laying on the carpet I looked at the tape wrong because I went back and looked at an old post and I said it was 100 x 100!!

This is the area I was working on last night.

I have been working on the little table topper as well and the big stitch quilting goes quickly – if I would stick to it! which I don’t, I pick it up for 5 minutes here and 10 minutes there – these areas marked for quilting are 3 inch squares.

Nothing fancy on this quilted top!

I saw this kind of flower bed on pinterest and when Mike cut the dead pine tree down I thought to give it a try – with his help of course –yesterday I planted mint on each end and some little annuals down the middle – the intent is that as the tree rots it creates a natural flower bed.  Only problem is the tree wasn’t as thick as I probably needed and so the plants are planted really deep – I well need to check it for watering constantly until the plants root well.  I do not mind the mint staying there to grow and spread.

Good luck with the rest of the quilting on POTC – hope it doesn’t shrink too much in the wash!

That log planter is very clever. It looks like my mint survived our harsh winter, but my old, established rosemary plants did not. Had to go out and buy new ones.

When you are quilting in a round, hand held hoop, do you leave your quilt in it all the time or do you take it out each time you stop quilting?

Have a good weekend, a happy, blessed Easter.

Very lovely post. The photo number 007 is beautiful. I loved especially the idea of flower bed made of dead pine tree! Great!

Your quilting is really beautiful. I’m in the process of hand quilting a quilt, I did all of the blocks individually – just did what I felt they “needed”. But now I’m stumped on what to do with the rest of it. Hoping it will all come together soon!

I have enjoyed watching this quilt as it progresses. You are getting down to the finish line now. It is a gorgeous quilt and you\’re hand quilting is wonderful. The tree flower bed is so pretty, I like that. Enjoy the mint.
