Diamonds Are Forever

Diamonds Are Forever, quilts

Forever done!!  All the hexies are now in place on Diamonds are Forever.  I might still decide to add another border onto this quilt – it is 94 x 103 inches – I think it will need a border to deal with shrinkage and to make it big enough for the king bed that we will most likely be getting.  I am putting it away for now though with a note pinned to it so I will remember to think about a border.  Melanie was over last night so we both climbed up on stools and held the quilt up so Mike could take a photo – that way I didn’t have to move furniture to lay it on the floor.   I will cut the edges straight before quilting and possibly cut that border off and add a plain border of white instead LOL– it would leave room for some pretty quilting.  That is just an idea right now in order to make it bigger without a lot more work.  This is what happens when you do not have a drawn out pattern and you make it up as you go – Like I say I will think about it and decide later – much later!  I am linking to Mrs. Sew and Sow today and She Can Quilt – these two blogs are actually shared blogs your link that you post shows up on both of them and they give a monthly give away for those that link up.  Also linking to Esther’s Wow and to Quilt Story’s Fabric Tuesday.

This is how much Melanie’s needlework has progressed from a couple weeks ago – she is almost done with this and such tiny, tiny work.

I believe I mentioned that I was going to give English Paper Piecing a shot and see how I like it.  I am ready for something new I guess.  This is the beginnings of La Passacaglia. Only the center is sewed together.

This is the fabric picked out for one more center, not as neatly laid out but you can see it clear enough.

I am using the glue basting method.

Thank you all for all the nice comments on yesterdays post – I was overwhelmed by the response.  I’m sure I will most likely still be blogging every day or almost every day it is a habit of mine.  To me it is not work and it doesn’t take very long to do.  I do not blog to make money – I have only a few ads and the money doesn’t come pouring in from it LOL – a little here and there only – I blog because I enjoy it.

I will decide what to do with the books on shelves when I get home – our local library is small and they are currently putting all books donated into storage as they have no room for them.  I do not belong to the local guild by choice so I will not be donating to it – I do not care for the local guild and gave it two tries and doubt I will try it again, it was not a good fit for a hand quilter nor for one that does a lot of work by hand.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

    Yes, please continue to blog!

How big are those little EPP pieces? I’m thinking of trying this but they look awfully fiddly to me. On the other hand, EPP is easy for teensy pieces.

I enjoy your blog and stop by nearly every day. Yes, please continue with this passion. You help to keep me motivated.

Have fun with the paper piecing. For me, it’s not something I want to do all the time, but it is a good technique to learn and have available.

Diamonds being done… for now.. it amazing Karen! So happy for that and writing yourself a note with it is a great idea… you have plenty going on now and I am loving your new EPP project! Thanks for keeping up the blogging… I hope you share your mattress journey … we are looking to replace ours and I haven’t a clue where to start looking for one that will last this time!

So glad to hear you will keep posting regularly! You and your blog are a great motivator for me and probably a lot of other people who you are not aware of! Thanks Karen’s!

It’s wonderful! Hope you’re enjoying making the passacaglia cogs!

P.S. The comment system hates me today – this is the fifth time I’ve been sent back to either change my name (too many letters!) or my comment (not enough letters!)

Wow. Congratulations Karen — what a magnificent finish!!! I can’t wait to see it quilted!

I’m anxious to see how you like paper piecing after hand piecing so long. And I feel your pain about the local guild. Mine isn’t a great fit either — and not because I do too much handwork either LOL.

Congratulations on another awesome finish! Diamonds Are Forever is just beautiful! I have enjoyed all the progress reports along the way…cannot wait to see what you decide to do about a plain white border, and to see it all quilted….
Melanie’s embroidery project is coming along nicely….I love the colors…
Safe travels to see your daughter in Wisconsin!

So pretty! Something like this would be good for my next scrap project.

Oh Karen how stunning it looks hanging like that, we are so lucky Melanie came over last night so we can see it in all it’s GLORY. Melanie’s tiny wee piece is exquisite. Love the colours you are working in with the Paper Piecing, hope you keep blogging I always enjoy my visit to you, always some thing to learn and enjoy. Happy quilting Glenda

Wonderful finish! You make it look so easy too.:) Putting the note about a possible border with the quilt top is a good idea. I need to do that more often so I don’t forget what I was thinking about!

Your Diamonds are Forever is beautiful. I understand the need to possibly add another section or border for shrinkage. One of the quilts I made for a granddaughter looked very long on her bed but once it was washed the shrinkage was quite a bit. Melanie should be very proud of her needlework as it is lovely and so neat. Oh boy, I am loving your La Passacaglia already. I’ve been on the fence with this one but you may have just given me the push I need.

Instead of cutting the edge even on Diamonds are forever, consider making a facing edge with hexagons. It would just turn inside and you would applique it to the backing. It’s a beautiful top.

    I really enjoy your blog.

Your work is so beautiful and we do not see handwork very much, love to see all that you do. We have a hand quilter in our Guild and she does not own a sewing machine!!! & we love her, she comes to our Retreat and sews sitting on the sofa in front of the fire place,
it is so nice to sit with her and do our hand work and chat for a while, love it, but can’t find the time to hand quilt at this time of my life, too many things are tugging at me, life will calm down someday, Keep on blogging, love to see all your many quilts that you get done!

I like your La Passacaglia! I actually like thread basting, although I think about giving glue basting a try on my next EPP project. The problem is that I can thread baste in the car on our road trips … I’m not sure I could do anything else lest I get car sick (I can look up often enough with thread basting to avoid car sickness).

Just beautiful! I have recently started EPP and I love it. I don’t find many blogs about it so you are a keeper.
