What a Rainy Day

Granny’s Got Style, Williamsburg Beauty, Winter Wonderland

It rained just about all day Monday – except first thing in the morning and that was strange at one point – my daughter Melanie lives 2.5 miles down the road from me and it was around 9:30 AM and we were exchanging a few notes on face book having happened to be on it at the same time and she mentioned how pretty her tomato plants looked on the porch in the rain – what rain – it wasn’t raining here LOL – and she said it had been raining for about 10 minutes – not here until almost an hour later and then it stayed with us all day and into the night.

I got some applique work done in the morning – nothing stitched but I now have two flowers glue basted down for the Caswell quilt – this block is B5 – but it is the first one I selected to do – I hope to get started stitching soon – I think I will stitch what I have glue basted down first then go back in and get the leaves basted and the final two flowers.  As you can see I was busy picking out thread from the cabinet to match closely –  I am linking to Mrs. Sew and Sow today and Quilt Story and to Esther’s Wow.

I never have regretted the purchase of my Gutermann Thread cabinet – 100 spools of 100% cotton – so many colors to choose from rarely do I not find something to work.  I bought it about 8+ years ago? something like that and it has been worth every penny (dollar) LOL – this is my go to for applique!

This second Winter Wonderland Embroidery block is nearing completion!  I really worked a bit on it yesterday – when I am done with it I will press it up really well and cut it the size it should be and it will join the other block on the design wall.

And a little more of Granny’s Got Style was done on Sunday night.  I am trying to work just about every evening again on this quilt.  I do need to wear my hand/thumb brace and I continue to use the stick on thimbles right now instead of the hand held thimble.  I can not say the thumb is healed because it isn’t – nor do I think it ever will be.  But I am managing I don’t think I quilt as fast as I did before the arthritis in the thumb but it will eventually get done and for that I am pleased.

I hope there is no rain today and I will get my grocery shopping done and shop for my new skillets that I need to go with the glass top range.  I didn’t do it yesterday – I don’t care for shopping in the rain – I did have to go out in the rain though as I had a dentist appointment and when I got done with that I went and exercised for an hour –

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

Shopping is never my favorite thing to do, esp. for groceries! We’re getting your rain today. It will make all the spring flowers here in Massachusetts ‘pop’! I’m enroute to my northern digs and confined to handwork as I travel. It’s so fulfilling and makes me think of you and your beautiful work.

Oooh, I have thread envy! What a great idea! Sorry to hear your thumb is bothering you. I think once we get to a “certain age” (whatever that is, but I’m sure we’re at it LOL) it just takes forever for us to heal. I’ve had a sore arm for MONTHS — didn’t know what caused it but I was starting to suspect knitting — and suddenly, it hasn’t been bothering me as much. I wish I knew what the problem was so it could be avoided. Maybe it was winter LOL!

We had rain here, but just in the morning. By noon, it’d passed through the area. I don’t care much to get out in the rain either, especially not shopping in the rain. We’re not due for any more rain until the weekend. Hope you have a dry day today.

While I would hope that your thumb would improve, I’m at least glad to hear that it’s not getting any worse. I can’t imagine having to give up hand quilting entirely, and I’m sure you feel the same.

We are getting rain here in Virginia today…supposed to rain all day, I think, but like someone else commented, it will make the spring flowers pop!
Love how that Caswell block is looking… you are moving right along on Granny’s Got Style…you will be finished in no time, at the rate you are going… love that second block for the red work quilt….I have been working on mine, as well …I am doing the ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas one… It has large panels of red work rather than individual blocks, so progress seems slow…but I am really liking it so far. I just love the Crabapple Hill patterns!

Always fun to see what you’re working on! The quilting steadily marches along and all your lovely applique work! You are an inspiration!

I am gonna enjoy watching the Caswell quilt come to life… I love the colors you are working with so far too.. nice to have matching thread for the applique.. and a nice cabinet you invested in too!
Funny how rain is.. we live near the east coast (2 miles as the crow flies) and we get rain or get missed by the rain here frequently from the coastal breezes moving things around. So showers in the midst of shopping just happens here! lol
Where do you plan on shopping for new pots.. I will be interested in your post if you find some reasonable and sturdy for long life!
Your quilting and embroidery is all looking grand… thanks for sharing your progress.. slow and sure is much better than not at all too! I agree 🙂

Loving your thread cabinet! How fun it must be to “shop” for thread in your own collection like that!

I don’t work like you on my applique. Maybe that is why I am so slow. I don’t ever add pieces that overlap on one another. I start with the bottom and applique all those and than keep adding. So interesting to see how others work. We are finally getting some rain now. When I took Max out for his walk I thought we were going to get wet but it didn’t start raining till about a hour later. I bought a tray of pepper, egglplant, tomato, and a parsley plant today and was just seeing if the rain wasn’t too much for them. Sure hope I get to plant them someday. We sure are having a wet spring.

I love your thread cabinet! But what really caught my eye was your redwork snowman block. I love embroidery and redwork. In fact, I’ve just started a brand new weekly Stitchery Link Party and I’d love it if you’d come link up. http://www.supermomnocape.com/2015/04/13/vintage-embroidery-monday-stitchery-link-party/
