Going Up

animals, Travel

Like I said so many photos!  Going up the Navajo Loop was a challenge but it was worth it.    A short while after you start going up you reach this point and no the easy part is done and it is up hill the rest of the way!  I should mention the whole trail we took was only 1.3 miles long – well say 1.5 when you take in walking back to the parking lot – it felt like 5 miles and took us 2 hours total.

And of course some steps!!

And some more

And here we are in pretty much what is called a “slot canyon”  here we have a path to follow and do not need to climb the rock – of which needless to say neither Mike nor I are in the kind of physical condition that is needed to do that!

And wow look at all those people ahead of us – some coming down this way and some going up like we are – most going up and from down below it reminded us of an ant trail.

look at all those people below me.  I clip a water bottle to my pack straps for easy access and also have one in my pack with my snacks and things. I do not carry a lot on these kinds of trails but it started chilly an I layered and have a light jacket in the pack.  It was actually only in the high 50’s that day but we were working!

We have just come through this short tunnel on the way up – I asked someone to take a quick photo of us.  Didn’t think of it at the time but the sweatshirt that I have tied around my waist says “Got Oxygen” it was from Pikes Peak some years ago – by this time we needed some more!

A window in the rock with grasses growing in it.

Back up to the top looking down at more people still struggle (hiking) up the trail – I hope you enjoyed the trail as much as we did – it was so beautiful!!

On the drive back to camp we saw two male antelope (pronghorns) fighting it out – what a sight and glad I had the new camera to zoom in

Wow, that is one steep incline … what a workout that was. Thanks for taking us along (ha!). Loved seeing the antelope fighting it out, too.
