Diamonds are Forever

Diamonds Are Forever, William Morris in Applique-Floral Fantasy

Before I forget my comments are all coming into my email once again and I don’t think I forgot to answer any questions the last couple days when I was having trouble with it but if there was a question I didn’t answer let me know.

Well I’m sure no one will be surprised when I say I started to quilt Diamonds are Forever already LOL – I really meant to hold off for a couple days at least and let my fingers rest up a little bit but I was too drawn to it as I started to draw out what I wanted to quilt.  I am marking with the blue wash out pen that I never have trouble with.  I do not intend to spritz the lines out as I go but wait until I am done and put in the washing machine and wash all the lines out at once.

This is what I am doing in the border area – a skinny “rope” type template in the plain border area and then a cross hatching of sorts in the white hexagon area – the color fabric will be done differently – probably an outline of the chain type of design.  I am using Hobbs Heirloom 100% cotton batting with no scrim.  ( I am not sure if it would look more “finished” if I put the cross hatching through the “rope” or leave as is)

This is one of the three threads that I used in Floral Fantasy – I had ordered another spool of two of the threads as I had thought I would run out and I didn’t so I m using this one for the Diamonds quilt – I have another full spool to use also and can order another if I need to.

I have the binding machine sewed down on the Floral Fantasy quilt and I started the hand stitching on it to the back.  I have a half of one side done.

I think I had showed the backing at one time – maybe not? it is a very light gray print by Robert Kaufman I believe that I got on sale of course!

Craftsy is running a sale on classes right now – through Sunday night the 15th of November – up to 50% off on some of the classes.

Congratulations on a finish! Floral Fantasy looks lovely. I like your quilting plan for Diamonds are Forever. She’ll be beautiful when completed. Even though you didn’t comment on the Wagons West blocks today, I wanted to mention I’m really enjoying your progress on them. This is what winter is for, stitching! Blessings, Gretchen

I like that border. It’s just simple enough to appeal to me. I think your quilting design for DAF will be beautiful. I probably wouldn’t cross hatch through the rope border … I think it might get too busy and detract from the rope design? Is the binding on your FF the same as the background? It won’t take you too much longer to finish up the binding and then it will be done! M

So good to see you already have a start on this. Perhaps you said what the thread Brand/Color was when you did the Floral Fantasy, but I’m curious. Could you please share what it is?

Janine the thread is Superior threads King Tut cotton – #40/3 color #921 variegated

    I knew it…..
I knew you wouldn’t be able to wait a bit before you started to quilt Diamonds Are Forever!!! Love the quilting design you have marked….
I have never used variegated quilting thread….I think it really adds a little something extra, but when I go to buy quilting thread, I never think about it… I need to give the variegated thread a try…..(I will have to write it down or I’ll end up with a neutral solid color!!)
Floral Fantasy is almost done….just a few more stitches to complete the binding….I suspect those last stitches will get done shortly ….
