Finish and Beginning

Diamonds Are Forever, William Morris in Applique-Floral Fantasy

Yesterday morning I knew I only had about 20 minutes of quilting left to do on Floral Fantasy so instead of my normal morning routine of doing nothing but catching up on blogs and drinking coffee I sat at the frame and quilted.  Always such a nice feeling to know it is time to take the quilt off of the frame.  I am linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today and Crazy Mom Quilts.

On the floor to trim off the excess.

One the table while I was squaring up edges.  Now on to the binding which I might get one today and ready for the hand stitching.

Of course we all know I do not like an empty frame so by about noon I got busy on Diamonds are Forever and skipped the fitness center routine – I knew I would get a work out at home.  I didn’t get this done until almost 3 in the afternoon.

The top on the back bar and out of the way.

The backing on the front bar and the center.

I forgot to take a photo after I got the batting on the center and front bar – I was getting a bit frustrated at that point as I found I had to trim my backing just a little more and needed to take it off the frame and on to the floor to trim to size correctly — luckily it was too big – which seeing as I had folded the backing and batting together I knew they both needed to be trimmed as they were the same size – which was too wide for the cloth that it gets tacked to.    All of this took a bit more time than I had thought it would.  Finally here is the huge quilt on the quilting frame and ready to quilt.  Before quilting it is 105 inches wide by 102 long.

Y’all are going to get tired of this one by time it is done – this is going to take more than 2 or 3 months LOL.  I am not sure how I will quilt the first border ideas are going through my head – I really doubt I will get started for another day or two at the earliest (which is already sooner than I said I would).

Craftsy is running a sale on classes right now – a quick 3 day sale Today – through the 15thup to 50% off on some of the classes.

Beautiful Floral Fantasy quilt, such a great feeling to be so near the finish line. The Diamonds are Forever sounds like a king sized quilt, that’s a lot of stitching!

I don’t care how long this takes, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading about it. It’s a beautiful quilt! And who needs a fitness center when they have a quilt to wrestle with getting onto the frame (especially when the backing and batting have to be trimmed down a little). 😉

Floral Fantasy is awesome! A lot of work went into that quilt!! I liked it so much when it was just a finished top, but your quilting made it even more special!!
Cannot wait to see how you decide to quilt Diamonds Are Forever….Looking forward to following along….

I knew Floral Fantasy was going to look amazing when all the stitches were in place and the batting was cut off! Love that quilt! And your Diamonds are Forever is finally in the hoop, ready to go! I don’t blame you for wanting to get it in the hoop immediately. There is such a feeling of accomplishment getting it all set up and ready to go!

Yea for finishes and beginnings. And no, I won’t get tired of seeing it on your blog. It’s fun to keep coming back and seeing your progress.

Can you do that all by yourself or do you get help from hubby? That is a large quilt at least you don’t have to baste when using a frame.

Oh WOW! They’re both such gorgeous quilts I could never get tired of them, and I know just what you mean about being itching to finish when you know you’ve only got 20 minutes or so until you’re done!

Just wondering if you might start quilting in the colored hexagons then quilt the borders or is not something that is doable when hand quilting

  • Rebecca Nov 13, 2015
