Diamonds Are Forever

Craftsy, Diamonds Are Forever

First of all thank you to all of you that placed your opinions on the border selections for Williamsburg Beauty – you all have given me something to think about over the next couple of days.  Sometimes it is so hard to pick out color – you can stand back and look and then look again and again finding it really hard to decide.  The comments were coming in so quickly I couldn’t keep up with all of you — thanks!!

Second of all before I forget there is a Craftsy sale on all supplies starting today and goes through the 29th Monday.  I will make sure to take a look and see if I am running out of any notions or supplies too.  Use the above link or the link on the sidebar.

Now on to Diamonds are Forever – 3 years and it is finished!!  binding is finished – it is washed and dried and on my bed!!  The quilt finished at 95 x 97 which fits the bed just fine.  I started hand piecing the top back in March of 2013 and finished the top in March of 2015  I know I had added up pieces at one time but I forgot to write it down – maybe one day I will figure it out – I’m pretty sure it is close to 3,500 to 4,500.  When it gets to that point who really wants to count?  It took about 3 1/2 months to hand quilt – 151 hours – I’m not sure on the hours to piece – a long time is a safe bet.

Plenty long enough at the foot to tuck behind the foot board.  (no I haven’t painted the bedroom yet nor hung up photos after we got the new furniture – hopefully this spring I will get it done)

Plenty of over hang on the sides

The backing

A close up of the puffiness and antique look from shrinkage.

Thanks again for all the help on deciding on color for Williamsburg Beauty – I’m going to be really busy today so doubt I will get around to any work on it today or on anything else for that matter – but hope to get back to work on it on the weekend and show photos then of whatever I decide.  I am linking up to Fort Worth Fabric Studio today.

(I am compensated for sales to Craftsy and AccuQuilt through my links)

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

Hey friend… been so busy I haven’t stopped in lately.. time to go back and read more than your opinion post it seems… wow I love the lighter wider border… like someone turned on the sunshine to me when you do that with your other planned borders 🙂
I am eyeing some fabric at Craftsy… will make sure I remember to use your link when I do buy it… after I get paid though… lol!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your Diamonds are forever.. wonder how many diamonds you stitched on this quilt both in the piecing and the quilting!!! That would have been fun statistics to have for sure… or else we can just remember forever! lol
Have a great day and look forward to your next post on Williamsburg Beauty.. love that name too BTW! Kathi

It’s just gorgeous, Karen! What an accomplishment!

It’s stunning. Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve often wished I had it in me to do a large quilt by hand, but I can only handle one craft that takes that much time, and since you can’t cross stitch by machine …

Love the diamonds quilt! I bought the 2″ hexigons from inklingo and have started a top that will sorta be a sampler. I considered buying one of the patterns many times over the years but was concerned how they would work with my printer. I finally tried one of the free ones and knew it would work. Really love how quick the prep time is. I dislike EPP although I have a friend who loves it. I do enjoy hand piecing though so inklingo is perfect for me. Thanks for sharing your love of it over the years. It is what lead me to it in the first place.
