On To The Binding

Handful of Scraps, Winter Wonderland

Most often I really do not mind binding but for Winter Wonderland I put off putting it on for a couple days – but finally got it on yesterday and now begins the week of hand stitching to the back, I’m not a good enough machine sewer to try putting it all on by machine.  I find hand stitching relaxing so really it doesn’t matter if it takes awhile does it.

I’m doing a multi-color left over strips from the blocks.  Half way done on the first side!

I fold my quilt up while I work on binding I find it moves more smoothly for me and it doesn’t smother me to be under a heavy quilt when it is warm enough for the A/C to be on.  I sit over a little way on the couch and just keep moving it down kind of folding it as I go.  I have been told that I am too neat but I like to do my work in a neat sort of organized way. What can I say that is just me.

One section of neutrals done on Handful of Scraps only to find that when I started to add the row of neutrals all the way around that I need to watch my color choices – I wasn’t thinking.

What I mean is in three places I have like colors nesting against each other and I didn’t want that.  So this section can be moved to another area it is not attached just pinned to the wall to see how it looked – in the next area where I add a row of neutral colors around the diamond I will lay it out on the table and check for color as I go so that won’t happen again.  Some might not noticed it but it is early on enough in this quilt that I can make it how I want to without that happening.  I am linking to Quilting is More Fun Than Housework today and Kathy’s Quilts, Slow Sunday Stitching.

All that mint I showed the other day – is put into this pint jar – I have more in the dehydrator still finishing up and if I crush what is in this jar down just a little bit I can fit it all in this jar.

Do you have Windows 10 and do you like it? Have you run into any problems with it.  I have put off putting it on my computer as I really do not know much about it and wonder what you all use and say about it.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

I have Windows 10 and haven’t had any problems.

First off…..I have 10 but don’t use the touch screen….don’t find it comfortable on my Lenovo laptop. Easier to use a wireless ‘mouse’.
Glad you are changing out those neutrals…..my eye really did want to rivet on the grouping.
Love the binding……and I fold the same way when hand stitching it on! Works way better!!!!!

I hate it with a passion. Got rid of it, I’ll switch to an Apple later this year.

That is the problem with doing scrap quilts isn’t it. I always try to go truly random and scrappy, but there are always those two or three pieces that just drive me bonkers together. I have one of those on my bed quilt. The of the same fabric in the same block and it catches my eye every single time. 🙂
Truth is though, you are probably the only one that will notice on such a stunning quilt. It is coming along nicely.

I somehow inadvertently installed Windows 10 on my computer. So far I have found little change from what was previously installed. I was a little concerned this morning when I had to load photos from my camera and it came up differently, but all is well and the photos loaded with out a problem. I totally understand what you mean with the same colorway being too close together. I have to be in control of my random. Enjoy your stitching.

You are making great progress on your quilts. I like to see color groupings. I think it adds interest. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!

I am going to try your way and fold up my quilt while stitching the binding.
I do have Windows 10. If you are going from Win 7, there is not much difference. If you are going from Win 8.1 then, Win 10 is a lot easier to navigate. The free upgrade is only available until July 29, 2016. You can also remove it (once) if you don’t like it. Using a touch screen is not necessary either. I have had a touch screen for 3 years and still rarely use it.

I have all but one block of my kaleidoscope quilt pieced … next will be the piecing the blocks together – AFTER I lay the blocks out so there are no similar fabrics next to each other.

I have never tried sewing on bindings … I just enjoy sewing them on by hand.

I put windows 10 on this PC and the lap top and have no problems with either one of them, it seem to work great . Really like your Winter Wonderland, great job. Did you ever find out what the little trees were you were going to move? They kind of look like my saw tooth oaks , and they are doing good.

I broke down and installed Windows 10 on my laptop yesterday. So far, it’s acting OK although it likes to give “helpful” hints when I least expect them. I did have to turn the wireless modem off/on to get it to pick up the signal, just as a neighbor had to do. Lucky I talked to him first.

I sit on the couch with the quilt to my side when sewing the binding down, too. It does help with the smother factor in summer!

Windows 10 was offered for free but I wasn’t going to update as I do computer work for a foundation. Then oops, must have hit something and it was downloading and I like it. No problems so far.

Love the binding on Winter Wonderland. I find the binding process relaxing and have not attempted to do it all on the machine.

Your Handful of Scraps is moving along nicely. I probably would change out the darker ones that are next to each other as my eye would always go there.

I don’t like Windows 10 at all! Maybe I just don’t like change, but I think Windows 7 is just fine.
