Wagon’s West

Handful of Scraps, Wagon’s West (dresden plates)

Thanks for all the info yesterday about the best fusible to use with wool applique done by hand.  I went to Hobby Lobby and found a small package of Lite Steam a Seam 2 which was recommended by many and will give it a try.   Once I give it a try I will let you all know how I like it.  It sounds like others have had trouble with the Soft Fuse staying in place while you work on it also.   I didn’t get a chance to do that yesterday as had other things to do and Melanie and Ric came over for supper last night and I dug into the hexies that were in  a project box near by to work on while we visited and watched out recorded episodes of the Walking Dead.  We have missed weeks here and there when they were not able to make it over and we are only on Season 4 I believe and not that far into it.

For some reason I thought I had already put a row of neutral hexies all the way around the center star of Handful of Scraps but I hadn’t – this grouping of hexies will go pretty much in this area but I will need to put the row of neutrals all the way around first.  It was nice to pick up the hexies and work some more on them.  I had 30 hexies basted so need to get some more of my neutrals ready before I go further.

I could not help getting started of course on the quilting for Wagon’s West on Wednesday night.  I had never used  100% wool batting before and my goodness! what a dream to stitch through.  I had always though Quilters Dream cotton was very easy to quilt but this wool is even better – glad I got some on sale.  It was not difficult at all to try for tiny stitches.

I am marking a grid of inch lines for the majority of the quilt and then the circles – wheels- well be custom to each shape.  I am linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today and Fort Worth Fabric Studio and Crazy Mom Quilts.

Another angle – this is about 2 hours of work and not even a third of the way across.

Rain today – we were going to go blueberry picking today out at my brother’s farm but not when it is storming – it will wait until next week – Melanie won’t be able to go with me then but I only like to pick one gallon at a time– it takes too long and my back doesn’t appreciate bending over for long periods.  I will go another week when she and Aniya can make it and get another gallon then.

June already – time sure flies as we age doesn’t it!

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

A very light rain here this morning but quite welcome…first morning in over a week that I don’t have to water things 🙂 Glad that you found a fusible web that might work better for you.

Wool batting is my favorite. Light weight, warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

I enjoy hand quilt with wool too. I thought it felt like I was stitching through butter, so smooth. Blessings, Gretchen

I’ve been tempted to try wool batting, but I want my quilts to be easy to care for … I want to be able to toss them into the washer and dryer without having to “coddle” them, and I worry that wool batting isn’t washable/dryable.

I’m not surprised that you’d have to try to get in a few stitches in Wagons West … looking good!

I knew you wouldn’t waste any time getting started on quilting Wagons West! The crosshatch quilting looks great….cannot to wait to see what you do in the wheel blocks!
Here in Virginia, we have sunshine for the moment, but we are supposed to get a good soaking this evening and overnight….and same thing tomorrow as well….the temperatures are higher and that pesky humidity is showing up….ugh!! I think the early part of next week is supposed to be nice….hope so….I have a lot of catching up to do on yard work….weeds love this rainy weather!
I finished up my wall hanging on Wednesday night….now, on to the next work in progress!

Storms moving in now. Just a quick note……..finished a client’s wedding gift quilt and out for fish supper tonight. Had the quilt label all printed out only to discover I had the date incorrect…..AFTER I stitched it on!!!! Ugh!!! Fixed it and quit for the day. Some days are like that!! Your stitchings look great. Will be anxious to get your input on the fusible!!!!

I’ve not tried wool batting, but I will now! As always, I’m so impressed with all that you accomplish. It makes me feel as though I don’t get very much done each day. And so much of your work is by hand. You’re amazing! Keep up the good work! XO

Thank you for a brilliant blog – I visit often.
Could you tell us how you mark for quilting. I had a go at a simple trellis but couldn’t get my lines evenly spaced and straight no matter how I tried!
