hexies and bricks

Handful of Scraps, quilts

I think I was outside yesterday for about an hour in the morning and then came in and stayed in! this week might be a little cooler and I am looking forward to it.

I worked on the bricks first for the scrappy quilt and finished chain stitching the units together that I had cut out – total for now is 302 units – I thought it was 300 when I cut but had a couple extra – that is a little less than half what I need I think to make a queen size – yes queen size to use some of these scraps up – I told Mike I was pulling from the shelves using up scraps – and he pretty much couldn’t see where I had pulled from LOL – yes they were packed pretty tight.  I think I need 362 units – we will see.  It really is amazing how many small pieces we can pull out to cut and still have so many left that it barely looks like you used anything when you know you cut the equivalent to about 3 yards of fabric.

I’m sure you can see where I pulled from the pink scraps – some breathing room – I can fit more in here now!

A tiny bit of space in here and this one was packed as tight as the pink box was.

Nice seeing a little space in here too  — I really am using up some scrap!  That big stack of flannel next to it will be made into a new star quilt this fall I think.  I bought the backing too so I have plenty here for one quilt.

302 bricks pressed – now on to the other half this week.  I want to mix in more blues and greens maybe some yellow also.

001

One more hexie flower done – the lower left – one more hexie flower to make then a lot more neutrals and the center will be pretty much done – but that is a long way off!!  I am linking to Design Wall Monday today and Em’s Scrapbag and MCM #31 Cooking Up Quilts.

Thanks to all that have ordered Craftsy supplies and kits from my links and AccuQuilt too – I do appreciate it!

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

I knew you would sail right through that stack of bricks!!
I may have to consider machine piecing my rectangle checkerboard…. I usually hand piece everything, but using the little Featherweight would make quick work of the piecing!
Handful of Scraps is looking good….by my count, you are up to 409 hexies (give or take a couple that may have been counted twice)! That is a mess of those little things!!! You have really rolled through them at this point….

You are so productive! It’s going to be a little cooler here this week, too, thankfully. I’m going to take a walk after lunch … something I haven’t done in probably 2-3 months!

You’ve done a great job of coordinating your bricks. I have way too many scrap quilts that just don’t look great because of the mishmash of fabrics I’ve used. Some day I’ll figure out how to coordinate the fabrics better. Great job so far.

Isn’t it funny no matter how many scraps how small the dent is in the bin. Makes me wonder how many quilts are in my bins?
