hexies, bricks and quilting

Craftsy, Handful of Scraps, quilts, Wagon’s West (dresden plates)

It was a busy day yesterday hopping from one thing to the next – a high of 95 degrees kept me inside other than an early afternoon break to get some exercise in the A/C controlled building that the fitness center is in that I go to.

I worked on the bricks early yesterday, got a bunch of the white cut and then chained pieced which goes very quickly.  No I am not using the AccuQuilt cutter for this – I do not have a strip cutter – I really need to get the 2.5 inch one at least as that is the size I use the most I do believe.  But really cutting strips with the rotary cutter goes quickly and the same size strips works for the white too just cut them in smaller pieces.  I quickly saw as I went through my bolts of neutrals on the shelf that I had plenty of the white that I used for the Postage Stamp quilt left over.  This is about 150 sets here – now to press and set aside and work on more – if I make a queen size I think I need about 560 sets or so – I will measure as I go and make sure I know how many so I do not cut too many.  This part goes quickly – it will be the putting together rows that will make the work slow down.  I’ll have to come up with a name as I get some up on the design wall.

Handful of Scraps grew a little bit – Melanie was over last night for supper and we were watching tv while we stitched so I got some more neutrals added.

I finished this edge of the row on Wagon’s West on Wednesday night and rolled it down and started on the next area.

This was the next area.  Linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today and Fort Worth Fabric Studio and Crazy Mom Quilts,.

Craftsy is having a Christmas in July Sale!!!!    And that means it’s time to start thinking about all the incredible handmade gifts you’re going to give come December. So to make things a little easier, up to 60% off kits and supplies. Get everything you need to make something that’s for the holidays and from the heart.  Sale starts today and goes through  Sunday night the 24th!  I noticed that the Fossil Fern fabric is now on clearance I wasn’t sure if that meant they were totally discontinuing so I asked and was told they are clearing it out – if you want to stock up on Fossil Ferns now will be a good time to do it.  I am so glad I have already purchased all I needed to finish up my quilt The Final Frontier and have the backing fabric to match up with it or I would be searching.

I wouldn’t use the Google cutter for cutting straps. I think the fabric moved too much as it’s squished under the rollers. I think rotary cutting strip is faster and more accurate. Now if I had arthritis I might think differently!

You’re really making progress on your Wagons West quilt … it is looking fantastic. I also enjoy seeing your neutral hexies grow.

It’s been hot here, too. Thankfully we had some rain this morning so temps were very reasonable even if it was on the humid side … but it was comfortable enough that I got out for a walk. I’ll walk at the Y if I have to, but I much prefer walking outside if I can.

Wonderful quilting! I love your cross hatching. I really need to get more practice in marking and quilting like that.
