Machine Quilting

quilts

The backing was pieced and pressed, pinned basting done and machine quilting started on Butterfly Parade.  It is not done by any means but started.  All the lines in one direction done and the pins removed – now where to sew more lines – we will see over the next couple days.

Yes I draw lines on – I can’t sew a straight line for nothing!  I am linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict & Fort Worth Fabric Studio today and Crazy Mom Quilts.

Now I need to make some going in the other directions and then more? maybe end up every inch – maybe not!

Looks wonderful. I watched a Jacqui Gering video in Crafty on straight line quilting and she marks the first line with that blue electrician (or plumbing) tape and then another one a little further into the quilt. She uses a walking foot with a guide and keeps making sure she is still straight between the blue registration lines. I tried it on a baby quilt and it worked out great, I did lines on the diagonal going both directions, about 2 inches apart.

It’s gorgeous – the closeup photo shows just how bright and cheery the fabrics are. Perhaps just quilt it on the diagonal going the other way and be done if the resulting squares aren’t too big? I think simple is sometimes better when the fabric is sort of busy. Very nice work! By the way, even if I draw the lines, I still can’t sew in a straight line!

I would ditch quilt along the seam between blocks in both directions. You don’t have to mark a line, it is already there for you.

It’s so pretty! I don’t think I”ve seen HSTs and 4 patches laid out like that before.

Looking good! I am in the process of machine quilting one…and yes, I draw lines or reference marks as needed. I have found that using rulers is getting much easier, and I just draw reference marks…love it! Your quilt is gorgeous!
