More on the Hexies and Quilting

Handful of Scraps, Wagon’s West (dresden plates)

I took the hexies off the wall to start attaching one big area on to the diamond area.   I lay it out on the floor and carefully  pin one hexie in place so I know where to start.

It can be very confusing I think – you really have to pin at least one in place I think so you start on the right hexie.

I fold the area in half and pin it with a clip and then start to sew.

So here it is on the couch – only got a couple hexies sewn before I got started doing something else – I’m sure I will be working on this for a couple days.  I am linking to Sarah’s Confessions of a Fabric Addict today and Fort Worth Fabric Studio and Crazy Mom Quilts.

I spritzed out my blue lines on this final border area of Wagon’s West as they had gotten very messed up – so Wednesday night when I got done quilting I got it very wet so they would disappear and then got back to work on it Thursday.

Now they are all back on and ready for work – fairly straight – not perfect but ok for me.

I love how your paper pieces for your Handful of Scraps have some uplifting words and comments peeking through the back of your work!… will you start removing central unnecessary papers when you finish this center section or do you plan to leave them in until it is a finished flimsy?? I am loving watching your progress on this project…
I am also glad you shared that occasionally remarking is necessary when you premark for handquilting… I find this to be true myself at times! Nice to have easy to erase blue pen as your marker of choice on this project!!! I like the blue marks when they are an option too! It is very humid here in Florida and I quilt mainly outside and the blue marker only hangs out clearly for a couple days here… once I start using my new frame inside I am sure I will use my blue pen even more than I do now! 🙂 Have a blessed weekend Karen and stay cool 😀 Kathi

It’s fun to watch the hexie project grow and I can see where it would get confusing sometimes, yes!

Very nice! Did you make your own paper pieces. Mine are from subscription cards in magazines so they say odd things. A beautiful project.

Wow — your hexie project is amazing. Hats off to you for your beautiful work. (I know my limitations — I don’t think I could do more than say, 5 or 6 hexie flowers!)
